Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I’ve Read the Most Books By

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday!  This week’s topic is Authors I’ve Read the Most Books By.  It was interesting looking through Goodreads preparing for this topic.  Most of the authors on my list weren’t a surprise to me, but a few were, mainly because I haven’t read anything by them in quite a while.  I will say I don’t think this list gives a completely accurate picture of me as a reader.  The list naturally leans heavily toward authors who write or are writing long lived series.  Most of the series fall in the paranormal genre which I love, but certainly isn’t the only genre I read.  For example, I love classic authors like Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters, but the number of books they’ve written is obviously much lower.  That being said, let’s get to my list!

Laurell K. Hamilton-19-I knew she was going to be the highest number on my list.  I really enjoyed her Anita Blake series for a long time, but I kept reading it much longer than I should have.  I got to a point where I just wasn’t enjoying it any more, but after investing so much time in the series and the characters, I was extremely reluctant to let it go.  It kind of broke my heart when I finally did.  I’ve heard the series is good again, but I don’t think I’ll ever go back to it.

L.A. Banks-18-I really enjoyed her Vampire Huntress series and the Crimson Moon series.

Keri Arthur-17-I’ve read the Riley Jenson Guardian series, the Myth and Magic series, and some of the Dark Angels series.  I would also like to check out her Lizzie Grace series.

Mary Janice Davidson-14-I used to absolutely love the Undead series!  Unfortunately, that is another series I had to let go.  The Fred the Mermaid series was fun too.

Karen Chance-13-I’ve spoke of my love for the Cassandra Palmer series and the Dorina Basarab before.  Though I’m cheating a bit by putting them on my list today as I haven’t read all the books I have.  Yet.

Charlaine Harris-13-The Sookie Stackhouse series was a favorite until the last few books.

Mary Higgins Clark-13-I used to read her mysteries a lot when I was in high school!

Carol Higgins Clark-13-I got into her work around the same time I was reading her mother’s mysteries.

Anne Rice-12-The Vampire Chronicles is the series that introduced me to the paranormal genre!

Richelle Mead-12-I’ve read the Vampire Academy series and the Bloodlines series.  I definitely prefer the Bloodlines series!

Patricia Briggs-11-Her Mercy Thompson series is so good!  She’s definitely a favorite author.  Clearly I need to read some of her other work so she can be higher on this list!

Robin McKinley-10-I love her fairy tale retellings, and her Damar books are great!  Beauty is my favorite book.

What do you think?  If you made a list this week, do you think your list is a true reflection of you as a reader?

Comments

  1. I was very into Mary Higgins Clark when I was in high school and a few years after. I haven’t read one of her books in ages. I should revisit her soon.

    • Poinsettia says

I haven’t read any of her work in a long time either! I always enjoyed her work though, so I should make time to either re-read the ones I have or pick of some that I haven’t read.

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  2. Great list, thanks for sharing! A lot of these authors I am aware of but not read much by them… chance to try the out perhaps now.

    My TTT is here http://bookloverssanctuary.com/2020/07/07/top-ten-tuesday-authors-i-have-read-most-books-by/

    • Poinsettia says

You’ll have to let me know if you get a chance to check some of them out.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  3. A lot of new authors from me xD
    Should check it out someday.

    • Poinsettia says

You’ll have to let me know what you think if you get a chance!

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  4. I’ve read two books in the Mercy Thompson series and really enjoyed them. I really must continue!! 😀

    • Poinsettia says

It is such a consistently good series! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it so far.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  5. I kind of felt the same way: that my list didn’t really reflect my current reading style. It showed me how much my tastes have changed over the years, though. 🙂

    • Poinsettia says

Yes, I think my list is more of a reflection of my reading tastes in the past and how they changed.

Thanks for visiting and commenting! 🙂

  6. These are all amazing numbers. 😀

  7. Oh, I’ve read pretty much all of Richelle Mead’s books! I forgot about her. LOL! Oops. Great list!

  8. Great list! There are some really high numbers on here – I’m impressed you’ve read 19 books by the same author!!

  9. I agree with you on the Sookie Stackhouse series. I adored the first 10 books. They were amazing! I too was introduced to the paranormal genre by Anne Rice. I still need to finish her series and learn more about my favorite vampire, Marcus. I don’t know if my list represents me fully, since I’m a mood reader. It definitely shows that once I start loving an author I go full out and read almost anything they write. Love your list!

    • Poinsettia says

I’m a mood reader too, but like you, when I really get into something, I go all in! Lol.

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  10. I haven’t read any of these (although my friend at my old job used to always rave about The Vampire Academy). I think my list reflects my history as a reader, since some of the books I read in middle school/high school/college and others I’ve read in the last couple of years.

    • Poinsettia says

Yes, I think this list is more of a reflection of my history of a reader, at least in some respects.

I know a lot of people who love Vampire Academy, and I like it too. I just enjoyed the Bloodlines series more. For some reason, it doesn’t seem to get as much love.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  11. LKH Made my list too and honestly I almost put Mary Janice Davidson and Charlaine Harris as well.

  12. I’m unfamiliar with all of the authors on your list! It’s always interesting to discover new things from Top Ten Tuesday lists.

    My TTT list!

  13. It’s always a bummer when a long running series kinda loses that luster. I didn’t realize how many books were in some of these series! 🙂

I have been wanting to read Vampire academy.

    • Poinsettia says

It really is a bummer! Fortunately there are some series that are going strong. (Mercy Thompson!)

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  14. I’m really glad that I did not get invested in the Anita Blake series because I had read some of the later happenings and I knew 100% they would not be for me. But it is super sad when you are so into a series and it becomes so disappointing for you.

    • Poinsettia says

It really is! And yes, the later stuff just wasn’t for me either. I just had to let it go.

Fortunately, there are other wonderful books to read. 🙂

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  15. I completely agree that Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines series is definitely better than the Vampire Academy series ?

    • Poinsettia says

Yes! It is rare that I find someone who agrees with me!

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  16. verushka says

… Oh my goodness, the Anita Blake series is still going? WOW! I had no idea. I used to read it too, but somewhere along the line I lost interest.

    • Poinsettia says

I looked it up because I wasn’t sure if it was still going either and discovered that book 27 is due out later this Summer!

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  17. Lol – I started reading Mary Higgins Clark young too – loved her books. Haven’t read them recently. But I Loved them, I should go back and take a look at them.

    • Poinsettia says

I loved them too. Like you, I haven’t read any in a very long time. I should make time to read the ones I haven’t read or re-read some of the ones I have.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  18. I see you’re into crime stories, that’s why I haven’t heard of most of the authors. Must try some of them. Which one would you recommend?

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

    • Poinsettia says

      You’re welcome! 🙂

I think the only authors on my list that would really focus on crime/mystery solving would be Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark. They rest fall more into the paranormal genre. Though I suppose there is still a mystery/problem solving element to those as well. Or at least fighting off a villain of some sort.

My favorite would be the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. If you get a chance to check out any of these authors, you’ll have to let me know what you think!

Thank you so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

      • Ah, I see. I only really know Mary Higgings Clark and read a book by her once, something about Christmas but I’m not the big crime reader. I love watching crime series. My favourites it probably “Inspector Morse” and its follow-ups “Lewis” and “Endeavour”.

I’ve noted your recommendations and will see whether I find them somewhere.

        • Poinsettia says

I really enjoy watching crime series too! I’ve never watched Inspector Morse though. I’ll have to look it up!

  19. I am not familiar with most of these authors, but I really liked the prompt this week because I am discovering all kinds of new writers I might like. Great list!

    • Poinsettia says

Yes, Top Ten Tuesday has introduced me to so many authors/books/series! My tbr will never recover!

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  20. I was surprised by a few of the authors on my list too. It’s been so long since I read them that I’d forgotten how many of their books I’d read!

    • Poinsettia says

Yes, I had the same feeling. Making the list reminded me of some of the authors I haven’t thought about in a while, and I’d like to revisit some of them!

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  21. The first 8 ish Sookie Stackhouse books were great, they went downhill after that.

  22. I agree about the Sookie Stackhouse series. I really enjoyed the first few I read but then they went downhill for me, which was such a bummer since those first few were so much fun.

    • Poinsettia says

I feel the same way! I ended up donating the books in the series that I didn’t enjoy and keeping the ones I liked.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting! 🙂

  23. Patricia Briggs is definitely high on my list! I never started the Sookie Stackhouse series but I heard the same thing. Thanks for visiting my TTT!

    • Poinsettia says

      You’re welcome!

Yes, I think a lot of people feel that way about the Sookie series. Still, I’m glad I read it as I did enjoy most of it.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  24. Great list! Robin McKinley, Anne Rice and Patricia Briggs are all authors I’d like to try.

    • Poinsettia says

You’ll have to let me know what you think when you get a chance to read some of their work!

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  25. Right now I am at 3 books with Patricia Briggs but I am hoping that number will increase quite a bit over the years.

    • Poinsettia says

Yes! I need to read some of her other series besides the Mercy Thompson series.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  26. Sorry for the late comment ! I just started bloghopping again 🙂
    Great list
Enid blyton came at the top of my list

    • Poinsettia says

No worries! I’m glad you were able to stop by and comment. 🙂

I looked up Enid Blyton, and I don’t think I’ve read any of her work! I’ll have to look into her more.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

  27. I’ve read SO many good things about Robin McKinley’s books, but never read one. Thinking I should remedy this… someday! 🙂 Thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland this TTT week. Sorry for the late return visit here.

    • Poinsettia says

      You’re welcome!

If you do read Robin McKinley’s work, you’ll have to let me know what you think. My favorites are Beauty, The Blue Sword, and The Hero and the Crown.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂
