Thanks for joining us today. Give us some insight into the main character. What does he/she do that is so special?

The main character (one of them) is Cade. He’s a lead singer in a band. He’s different because he’s not the typical “bad boy”. He’s smart (an engineer by day) and he doesn’t take advantage of the girls that literally throw themselves at him.

What draws you to this genre?

I enjoy reading all romance! To be honest, most romance novels have the same element – boy meets girl, there’s a conflict – something that keeps them apart, and there’s a resolution and everyone lives happily ever after. After years of reading romance, you think I might get bored – no way! I love the way each author makes each story their own. I know when I’m reading a really great book when the author has put their own unique spin on the story, so the predictable becomes engaging and fresh.

Why do you write?

Some authors write for themselves, not me. Because I love reading so much, I appreciate and respect (and love) the authors that can bring me a story that makes me laugh and/or cry. I write for the readers – because it would make me incredibly happy to give them the gift of a story that takes them away for a while, something they can enjoy. It is the greatest joy to me when someone tells me they loved my book.

Do you have a special time you write or how is your day structured?

When I’m in “the zone” there is no structure! I get up and write until my eyeballs start to blur.

Where do your ideas come from?

It’s a combination of life experience and what I like to read.

What was the hardest thing about writing your first book?

Worrying about how people would receive it. I kept it a secret for months (even my family) Slowly, but surely, I started to let people know about it and finally, actually letting them read it! I went from not telling a soul about my book to appearing on KOMO News 4 11:00 live show last summer. Let’s just say I’ve come full circle!

What is the easiest thing about writing?

Both times, the story poured out of me the second I put my hands on the keyboard.

How long on average does it take you to write a book?

Intentional took around four months, start to finish. Unintentional took almost a year (it was a busy year!)

How many more books do you plan to be in this series?

After Unintentional. I have a few other ideas for future books. Next up: Complicated

Who designs your book covers?

Robin Harper – Wicked by Design (She’s great!)

MEDIA KIT Book Cover Unintentional_AmazonCade, the gorgeous song man, has every reason to steer clear of commitment and train his soulful eyes, killer dimples, and sexy voice on every beauty swaying to his band. So why is it that he finds himself truly, deeply and unintentionally, fixed on the one woman who is not so easily swept away?

The sequel to Intentional, the debut romantic novel by MK Harkins, Unintentional is the heart-racing new work that follows the tangled thread of Cade in the aftermath of his heartbreak in losing the one woman he thought was his soul mate. After taking a hiatus from his job as an engineer, as well as his role in the band as lead singer, Cade reemerges in the Seattle music scene. Enter Laurel, the tenacious and determined music agent. Laurel is determined to sign him, no matter how clearly reluctant he is. Though they try to resist one another romantically, the magnetism is as immediate as it is powerful.

Unintentional offers readers an intricate, riveting story about the fraught paces of love, while also offering strains of heartwarming humor. With rich detail, authentic characters, and plenty of blood-pumping romance, Unintentional is a moving and multilayered look at how love can slip through our fingers, only to be pulled back again at the most surprising, stirring moments.

Enjoy an excerpt:

I close my eyes, trying to shut out the words. A dull, yet painful ache starts creeping up my spine, radiating out to every cell in my body. As the minutes tick by, the feelings become more intense.

My breath catches in my throat as a stream of unwanted emotions rush through me
The torrent of loss and agony storms through my mind, while I desperately hold onto denial, the only thing I have left. Who am I kidding? I’ve lost her. Dread and sadness are pulling me under, making it difficult to breathe

If Jeremy didn’t cheat on Mattie, I know, without a doubt, she’ll be returning to him. Jeremy will have Mattie back. My stomach roils as I contemplate that bastard having her. It’s irrational, I know, but I’ve despised that guy from the get go.

I want to leave, but I just can’t. My body feels like lead as I stroke her hair, catching her tears as they fall. She knows how I feel. I know she loves me, but she has a history with Jeremy. She loves him more. I’ve known this all along.

Damn, I’m so stupid. But could I really help it? As I gaze at her, probably for the last time, I know I don’t have a chance. I love everything about her, her smile, her laugh, her beauty – but not just the exterior beauty. It’s the person she is.

Hell, I probably fell in love with her the first weekend we met at the cabin in Verlot.

I need to get away. I can’t be next to her like this. It’s too painful.

I get up, but I still can’t leave the room, so I move to the window. I stare at the Seattle skyline for what seems like hours. I’m rooted to the floor, unable to leave. I know, when I go, that’s it. Mattie, or the dream of Mattie, will be gone forever.

  3. Engineer by day and lead singer in a band by night. I like it. I am going to have to start with Intentional. I have to start at the beginning 😉

I think that it would take me years to write a book. LOL!

What will Complicated be about, MK?

Thanks for the interview and excerpt.

    • Hi Skeeter! I want to look deeper into one of the main characters – why would anyone resort to murder to try to impress their father? (Does the father know what she/he’s up to?) What influenced them as a child? Also, on a lighter note – who will win the battle for Sophie – the mysterious Ayden? Or the fun, outgoing Scott? If Scott wins – what will happen to Allix? I still haven’t decided!

  4. Ooh, like the sound of Cade!
