Hey y’all!

I’m Julia Talbot, and I’m here to talk about Egyptology and Tomb of the God King, which is a book I wrote a while back and that Dreamspinner is being kind enough to re-release for me.

One of the things that fascinates me about the golden age of archaeology in Egypt is the riverboat. Think Death on the Nile. I’m writing a mummy story again right now, and the guys are about to go from Cairo to Luxor on a dahabiya or dahabeeya. These boats were usually steamers, and they had magnificent staterooms, lounges, and deck sitting areas.

The best thing about these boats to me is the skullduggery a man, or a pair of them, could get up to. They didn’t have the weapons restrictions we have now, so most of the men, like cowboy Eric in Tomb, were armed. This could make for some charged moments since there was little way to escape a grudge on board until the boat docked.

Men could also play musical cabins, trading roommates for an assignation between lovers. Jewel thieves, ghosts, scoundrels… they all about on these boats, just like on the riverboats of the Mississippi.

There’s so much more to Tomb, from, well, tombs to artifacts, lover to elder gods. I hope y’all will take a chance on it!

Englishman Christian Hewler travels to 1920s Egypt as the man Friday to an eccentric American millionaire, hoping to make history and establish his name in archaeology. What he doesn’t count on is meeting brash hired gun Eric Lawless, an American cowboy working for a rival team, or the paranormal mystery that draws them in and has them facing down crazy archaeologists, dark entities, and even ancient gods.

From dark tombs to the burning-hot desert of the Egyptian landscape, Christian has to prove his mettle. During this dangerous game of cat and mouse, the reluctant partnership between Christian and Eric blossoms into more—maybe even a love that can last beyond the deception and terror hidden deep in the tombs of the Valley of the Kings.
