Harley’s got the hots for her best friends — two gorgeous hunks who’re in love with one another. Helping them spice up their sex life can’t be such a bad idea — can it? Friends with benefits, nothing more.

Harley’s heart has complicated the issue. She wants to be more to Koijirou and Davis than a temporary fling, but she doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. If it comes down to a choice between sex and friendship, can she handle the consequences of the choice she makes?

5 Little Known Facts About Harley on the Rocks

#1 – Stephanie Burke (aka Flash) named this book. I had written the whole thing and submitted to an anthology under another title. That obviously got rejected. When I revamped it for submission at Changeling Press, I needed a new title. I couldn’t come up with anything clever and thus turned to my regular sounding board and ideas partner. Flash came up with Harley on the Rocks in only a few seconds. I couldn’t argue with it. The title just fit.

#2 – I chose Koijirou’s name because it has “koi” in it. “Koi” is the Japanese word for love. It’s also the word for carp (using different kanji characters), which is the reason why you usually see carp depicted in romantic Japanese images. I had to dig through a few naming dictionaries online to find a Japanese boy’s name that uses “koi” so I could have it as the character’s name.

#3 – An entire chapter that gives more background about Koijirou and Davis didn’t make it past the editing process. It’s superfluous info that slowed the pacing of the story, but I was still sad to see it go. I didn’t let it go to waste. I posted the axed chapter in my March 2011 newsletter. Join my newsletter and you can get access to that outtake along with chapters from my current work-in-progress.

#4Harley on the Rocks was my nod to my hentai obsession. I love Japanese anime and manga, and that includes hentai. For those who don’t know, hentai is Japanese animated porn. And don’t think just because it’s animated that it is in any way meant for kids. These movies (and sometimes series) earn every bit of their NC-17/XXX ratings.

#5 – The idea for Davis and Koijirou’s relationship dynamic was based on real world male/male couples. I heard about one such couple from Flash and decided that would make a great premise for creating a threesome.

  4. Stacie – It’s fun bouncing ideas off of Stephanie and helping her with ideas as well. And while I don’t always name characters with a specific meaning in mind, this one just felt right. 🙂

Na – Best friends turned lovers is a fun premise because you don’t have to go through the “getting to know you” period. In novellas, that’s a plus.
