As someone who doesn’t know much about magic shows at all, I was glad that the narrator spent so much time describing what all of the lingo in that subculture meant. It helped me understand what was happening and why the magicians at the casino were so anxious about the AI becoming better at their jobs than they were. Their work was complicated. It really shouldn’t have been something a computer understood at all, so the fact that it did meant that no one’s occupation was safe anymore.

I would have liked to see more time developing the ending. As clever as it was, the narrator explained what really happened very quickly and while glossing over some important facts. There weren’t many details about key parts of the plot, and that’s something that would have gone a long way in helping me to figure out what was going on more quickly. I was confused the first time I read it and realized that the storyline had suddenly stopped when and where it did.

The narrator was a very funny guy. His lighthearted approach to life extended to even the most serious topics like what happens to a person’s mind and body as they grow older and start to lose skills they could once do without a second thought. This wasn’t something I was expecting to find in this tale, but it sure did add a nice layer to depth to the storyline.
