Lian loves his ship and his work as a diplomat but has difficulty connecting with others—only partly because of his mixed human and alien heritage. Something about the eccentric mechanic intrigues him, though, and their easy friendship could become more… if they live long enough to broker peace between humanity and a hostile race while pacifying a crew that thinks Gin belongs in prison.

Ginnovi “Gin” Oshwald is a superb mechanic on earth who lives in a small down. He has a rather strange gift–he can control and destroy electronics with the touch of his hand. Nice, huh? He’s not exactly feeling great, but then his life gets a curve ball when the captain of a starship needs a mechanic for his ship.

Captain Lian Hartford of the star ship Bethany isn’t impressed by Earth. He’s a man of space and not used to wood buildings and real gravity. He tends to push people away from him.

The characters in this story are well developed with their own personalities and histories. Both Gin and Lian have experienced loss. They’re damaged people. Gin is such a sweet man and all of those that meet him feel protective of him. But the captain is not supposed to have a relationship with crew members. Impossible, since there is a connection between him and Gin that can’t be ignored. Lian enjoys how different Gin is from the rest of the crew. His innocence and happy attitude are a breath fresh air.

I also enjoyed the plot development. There are twists and turns I didn’t see coming and the characters really get a chance to develop. I thought the way the two began their intimate relationship was kind of odd and a little awkward, but these guys aren’t average guys or in an average situation, so it worked for them. I loved seeing Gin grow into the man he was supposed to be. The relationship between Lian and Gin is sweet and hot at the same time. The sex scenes were well written without being too much. It drew me in until the end, rooting for Lian and Gin’s relationship.

This is a fun, interesting and well written science fiction novel I would recommend to my friends.
