I love fantasy, so was excited when I had the chance to review this book—and I was not disappointed!

It begins a little slow, which is not surprising in a new series as the author is building her world, but it quickly picks up pace once you get into the story itself. That’s not to say that the author drags out the action… from the first couple of chapters, the main character, Methusal, finds herself accused of a crime she didn’t commit and nobody seems interested in helping her prove her innocence.

The characters were well-written, and I really enjoyed getting to know them—even the not-so-nice ones! The relationships seemed very realistic, although in the beginning I had trouble understanding why her family members were so sure she was guilty.

This is my first book by Ms. Green, but it will not be my last—after all, this is only the first book of a planned four-book series, and I am already invested enough in the characters that I want to find out what happens! Good job!

Thank you for your review and recommendation! I look forward to checking this book out for myself! 🙂

  3. Do you have any name choosing resources you would recommend?

    • Mai, thank you for the question. Choosing names is always a difficult task, because we want them to not only “sound” like the character, but it would also be wonderful if the meaning of the name describes a part of who they are, too. Naming my own children was very difficult, too. I found a baby names book that lists a ton of names, and their meanings as well. For characters, I’ve also looked up names online–for example, I looked up Russian names, for my character Anya, in Ice Baron.

  4. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and, if so, how do you overcome it?

    • Peggy, thank you for stopping by, and for the question. I do have writer’s block quite often. In fact, many days I look at the blank screen to start a new day of writing and think to myself, “I have no idea what is going to happen next!” I pray about it, and that always helps me.

What comes first for you–the story or the characters?

    • Thank you for stopping by, and for the question, Becky. 🙂 For me, the characters come first. Usually the character and the dilemma they’re facing come to mind first, and I want to write the story and find out what happens to them! Of course, I usually know where in general where it will end up, but it is the journey that is the interesting part.

    Hi Jeanette!
I am always curious to know, are you able to write or read when it’s noisy or do you need silence as I do myself? Congrats on you New Release. I am looking forward to reading your book!

    • Bea, thank you so much! I am just like you–I need complete silence when I write–I am very easily distracted. 🙂 Also, I think I need complete silence to get into the creative “headspace” of writing. However, I can read when it is noisy–for some reason, I can block that out. Thank you so much for stopping by on the blog tour! 🙂
