If you like a paranormal outfitted with suspense, mystery, and intrigue, Jianne Carlo’s White Wolf is just the ticket. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a story that kept me hanging until the very end, and even longer since I’ve read a werewolf tale that didn’t follow the conventional guidelines. There are no werewolves that sprout fur and grow fangs, and you know what? The story is made the better for the originality, and by keeping the characters as intended, far more believable. Think contemporary but with a supernatural twist, and some of the hottest scenes you’ll ever read. As for the specifics: The dialogue is sharp, the pace is brisk, and the writing is spot-on. The whodunit murder/mystery is wonderfully written and plotted so that you are made aware of the villain, but remain blissfully unaware of whom it is. I teetered back and forth between the supporting cast as I tried to figure it out, and I can honestly say I was surprised at the big reveal. The anticipation is what fuels the reader, and the ending doesn’t disappoint.

White Wolf is a most enjoyable read that I recommend. But a word of caution: Keep a bucket of ice at the ready. This one should come with a burn notice.
