A decadent-looking savage has captured Francesca DuVall and her brother, Marsh. Now she must spend every waking moment planning an escape from the camp of the brutal savages. What she doesn’t count on is the powerful draw of desire interfering with her scheme.

Ethan Gray is a curator at a national museum in Washington, D.C. . . . most of the time. But when he travels through time to help his beloved People, he becomes Meko, leader of the most revered and feared tribe of the plains, the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers.

Their worlds are decades apart, yet Meko can’t resist the dark beauty he kidnapped during a raid. He has many battles to fight, but none more crucial than capturing Cesca’s heart forever.

Their love will not only overcome the brutal reality in which they must live, but transcend the restraints of time.

Ethan Gray is both man and animal, from the past and the present. He is a time wanderer who travels the decades that divide the present with those of the Cheyenne from the past. Known by the People as I Am The Wind or Meko, he is sent by council elders of the present to fulfill missions in aiding the Cheyenne. He maintains his presence with the tribe as leader of the fearsome Dog Soldiers. He is well versed in fighting against the blue coats, but not a conquering of the heart. Francesca is everything he never knew to look for and a force of destiny that could not be ignored. Unfortunately, inevitable events and time upset the balance in his new found life and now he stands to lose both his heart and his soul. Powerful images are conjured with every line in this story. It is impossible not to get sucked into the time period and become mesmerized by the setting and culture. Incredibly there are stories inside this story that are not only poignant to the plot, but also offer a bit of factual Native American history. The rituals and beliefs described bring an authenticity that allows the reader to be part of the Cheyenne. This book offers the unique experience of traveling back to a time when wars of discrimination were brutally and savagely played out without regard for innocence. The need to protect one’s own family and tribe was an everyday concern, but made for fierce determination and heart-pounding reading.

The characters are not only charming, but extremely well written and bring a different perspective to every intense moment of the story. Meko is the fearless warrior with a heart of gold and Francesca is stubbornly curious yet determined to persevere no matter how dire the situation. Both have little regard for themselves as long as the ones they care for are safe. Their resolve on this is tested many times throughout the story, which creates moments of exquisite passion and an unbreakable bond. The rest of the cast help to create several touching moments filled with laughter and tenderness.

Aside from a few minor editing errors there is nothing not to love about this story. It is suspenseful, dramatic, and undeniably beautiful, so be prepared for a full emotional investment. There is a little hint at the end in the “About The Author” section with regards to a possible sequel and I can only hope fervently that Ms. Diablo decides to proceed with one. Romance readers of any genre are highly encouraged to read this story.
