He’s not the only one with something to hide

Chance Hardin has spent many good years as a ranch manager on the Southern Cross. But now it’s time to move on. His brothers want him to join them in the oil business—equal partners. But spending every day with them, Chance would never be able to keep his secret. So to protect their father’s memory, he’ll deny his Texas ambitions. Until Shay Dumont literally crashes into his life.

Who is the beautiful stranger? For the first time, Chance is very interested in the truth. Telling his brothers about the past could destroy their relationship, but it could also bring him everything he’s ever wanted. Including Shay, who is hiding a secret he doesn’t suspect. The truth will challenge everything he knows—about his family, Shay and himself.

A little misunderstanding never hurt anyone…much.

I have to admit, this isn’t my first Linda Warren book. I’ve happily nabbed her other books when shopping. I know the writing will be tight, the characters engaging and I won’t be able to put the book down. The Texan’s Secret is no exception.

The moment I sat down to read this book, I literally couldn’t put it down. I had to know what would happen next. The characters jump right off the page. I love the twists and turns. Nothing happened quite how I’d expected.

Now, some might consider an oil man plot a little tired. Yes, it’s used a lot, but Linda Warren manages to add little touches that makes the story fresh. My one niggle was that here and there large chunks of info seemed plopped in. It slowed the story a bit, but did help my overall following of the tale.

I must say I rooted for Shay and Chance, especially when it looked really bad for the both of them. I could relate to Shay’s confusion and frustration. She only wants the best for Chance and herself. Ah, but life has different plans. I loved her strength and the fact that she didn’t back down. There’s issues she’s got to deal with that many people would struggle with. Kudos to Ms. Warren and Shay.

And that’s what makes this story really engaging–it wasn’t what I’d expected and I’m glad I got this book. And if I’m not mistaken, there are going to be more as there are plenty of brothers and fantastic secondary characters. I can’t wait.

If you want a book that’s a great beach read or perfect for a lazy afternoon, then this is the book for you. I recommend The Texan’s Secret. Grab a copy now.
