For the price of their blood — and their sex — the Changelings protect the inhabitants of Chimera from things far worse than the denizens of this backwoods planet could ever imagine.

When Taylon is captured and sent to participate in the Gathering, her first thought is to fight. And she has the means — unlike the natives of Chimera she’s capable of resisting the compulsions used by these giant Vampiric Werecats. But how can she resist the seduction of the most handsome man — Changeling — she’s ever seen? Can she survive four weeks at his mercy — and not want to stay forever?

Looking for a smoking hot book with a feisty heroine willing to do anything it takes to defend those weaker than she? Then The Taming of Taylon is the place you should start.

Taylon and her sister are stranded on a planet where the law says the shifters may choose a woman every thirty days for sex and feeding. Taylon is a virgin, as is her sister, and isn’t going to give it up that easily. Plus, she’s discovered that the shifters can’t control her mentally and the law says they aren’t allowed to force sex on the unwilling.

Taylon is definitely unwilling.

Through a series of circumstances, however, she finds herself required to stay with the leader of the shifters and do his bidding. And she discovers that she’s not quite as unwilling to indulge in sex after all.

This was a very short story, and while the sex was hot and titillating – yep, I had to fan myself a few times and I definitely wished I was Taylon more than once – I struggled with the lack of any real world building. I understand logically that this was because of the length of the story, but I still found myself frustrated. What are these “gates” they spoke of, and why didn’t anyone notice that Taylon and her sister were different in some way from the other indigenous inhabitants?

Regardless of my feelings toward the minimal world building, I have to admit to falling a bit in love with the hero. Despite his quick temper and pushy nature, he really did care about Taylon. He didn’t show a lot of patience with her, or allow her to adjust to the strange new customs of the place, but the fact is, he showed considerable patience with her when it came to introducing her to sex and made sure she was very satisfied every time he touched her. We could all hope for a lover like that!

This story was clearly written with a sequel in mind and I thought it ended just a little too quickly – Taylon’s change of heart was more abrupt than I found completely believable. Still, I was perfectly happy that I got to read this story, and will keep an eye out for the sequel.
