A week into sophomore year, the last thing Decker Lennox wants to do is accompany his best friend Scarlett to Kappa Psi Delta’s Back to School Bash. After all, the frat is Jock Central, and it’s not like anyone would ever mistake Decker for a jock. In fact, he isn’t a great fan of jocks in general—but damned if Avery Beckett isn’t an exception to the rule.

Some things shouldn’t mix. Oil and water. Beer and gasoline. Jocks and Wallflowers?

I have to admit the title snagged me from the first. I thought it was quirky and unique. I had to know more. I’m glad I was intrigued. Ms. Davis rewarded me for my curiosity.

The story flowed well and nabbed me right away. I wanted to know how these two opposites would get together. Ms. Davis painted a tight little picture in a few pages. I loved Decker. Why? He’s cute in a dorky way. But moreover, I’ve been in his shoes. He’s not real smooth in social situations and not sure of himself. Ms. Davis penned him in a way that I felt like she’d written my own experiences.

I think my favorite part of the story was actually Avery. He wasn’t what I’d expected—he was so much more. He’s also written in a manner that made me want to root for him and made me see him as so much more than a baseball player or jock.

If you want a story with lots of heart and a few hidden little twists, then you need to read The Jock and The Wallflower. You’ll be glad you did.
