Searching for a romance containing a hot cowboy, a saucy heroine, and enough tension to keep you turning the pages? Look no further. Joanne Kennedy’s Tall, Dark, and Cowboy is all that and then some.

When the novel begins, you are introduced to the heroine, Lacey Bradford; an ex-trophy wife who’s been spoiled her entire life. It’s taken a bad divorce and a healthy dose of fear to send her back home to the one man she has always been able to count on. Unfortunately, things have changed. The boy she once knew has grown, becoming a sexy cowboy she can’t stop thinking about. Enter Chase Caldwell, an endearing yet determined man who has loved, lost, and finally started rebuilding his life. When Lacey reappears, he’s at war with his feelings. He wants to love her, yet he can’t help but resent her. Knowing she needs his help, he reluctantly agrees to do what he can to aid the woman he’s dreamed about for years.

When he’s snappy, she has a snarky retort to set him on his heels. These scenes are the true treasure of the book. When their chemistry overtakes them, the pages start to sizzle. Each encounter is better than the one before, leaving the reader anxious to learn what happens next. Can Chase overcome his past? Will Lacey realize that she could lose everything in her determination to stand on her own?

One minor complaint: Lacey’s constant reminder to the reader that she’s an ex-trophy wife. After several mentions, the information became redundant. It’s established early on that she’s lived off her husband’s money and is established as a young, beautiful wife worthy of envy. However, this is a very small issue that doesn’t hamper the overall enjoyment of the story. Once the reader settles in and falls in love with Chase, who is absolutely swoon-worthy, it’s impossible to think about anything else. The writing is sharp, the dialogue is witty, and the pace is perfect.

A definite must read for romance readers who love cowboys, be sure not to miss Tall, Dark, and Cowboy.
