Cecily Mason is the youngest in a long line of powerful witches, and the time has come for her to summon her familiar, an animal companion to strengthen her abilities and share her life. Only instead of summoning a simple animal she summons a werejaguar, and the man inside the beast isn’t happy to be under her control. Like it or not, they’re stuck with each other, and in order to save both their lives they’ll have to learn to live with each other, and eventually to love each other as well.

In this quick and interesting read, a young witch finds herself unexpectedly saddled with a shapeshifter as her reluctant familiar.

This great story finds Cecily Mason, a young witch, summoning her familiar, an animal companion that will strengthen her abilities and share her life. However, things don’t quite go as expected when she summons a werejaguar named Mauricio Oliveira instead. Now Cecily must find a way to make it work or lose her abilities forever. However, Mauricio is not too thrilled at being under her control and is quite angry over the turn of events that find him in unfamiliar surroundings. But unable to be separated the two are stuck with one another and must find a way to live with one another.

This was truly an entertaining story and I especially enjoyed the relationship between Cecily and Mauricio as they complement one another quite well. A loner, Mauricio is upset over the events that have bound him to Cecily and fears giving up complete control. Stuck in an unfamiliar city, he misses his home and the familiar surroundings of the jungle. Cecily is also a bit upset and worries about what Mauricio will do as she knows that separation will mean the end of her life as a witch as well as severe pain for her. As the youngest in her family, she has worked hard to prove herself and to earn her independence from her meddling sisters and mother.

Cecily and Mauricio need one another, but almost realize this too late. But as time passes and they begin to share some very vivid and erotic dreams, the pair grows closer and realize that perhaps it wasn’t a mistake that they got paired together after all. Their budding relationship is quite touching and Mauricio is definitely a charmer when he wants to be.

The whole witch/familiar concept was quite interesting and I enjoyed learning about Cecily’s duties as a witch as she worked to protect the city. I also really enjoyed watching the progression from almost bitter enemies to caring lovers and thought the whole story was quite unique and enjoyable.
