Shelton has a gift he’s eager to give to Nevil. At a party, Nevil flirts with one man after another, keeping Shelton on his toes. Then Percy, an ex, shows up to complicate things. Despite his best efforts, Shelton can’t find the right moment to give Nevil his gift. Will Nevil ever let Shelton get close to him, or will Shelton have to keep the gift in his pocket all evening?

He’s found the one to make his heart sing, but can he show the man without shoving him away?

I got the honor of reading the previous story, Shelton in Love and was happy to revisit these characters. I fell in love with Shelton in the first book and had to know what would happen next for the slightly timid man. Shelton, though a little timid is a very complex man. He’s a joy to read more about. I liked reading what was going on in his head, but there were times when I wasn’t sure what was going on. Still, it was like reading about dear friends and I could excuse it.

Then there’s Nevil. He is his own issues. I wasn’t terribly fond of him through parts of this book. I think it was because there were more than a few times when I wasn’t sure what he was thinking. Maybe if I’d had the story in parts from his point of view, it might have been a little clearer.

That said, there are issues in this book that are things people can relate to. Miscommunications, hurt feelings. It’s realistic and palpable. There are plot twists that took the story in directions I didn’t expect really added to the overall flavor of the story. I enjoyed seeing what would happen next.

If you want a book that’s got lots of heart, then you need to read Shelton’s Promise. You’ll be glad you did.
