Colton returns to Settler’s Mine searching for his mate who he’d abandoned years before. He’d been on his way earlier, but once he and Larkin mated, they couldn’t keep their hands to themselves and it delayed his trip.

Michipi has made a new life for herself at Settler’s Mine and doesn’t want to trust Colton again, no matter how sincere he seems. Especially with his new mate receiving all the perks of the heartstone glow that she never got.

While Michipi enjoys being the subject of being two men’s desires and what they have to offer, however good they both are she can’t get past Colton’s past betrayal and denies the future of their mating. When an old enemy resurfaces to make an attempt on Colton’s life, Michipi is forced to realize that she needs both men in her life. But has the knowledge come too late, and at too high a cost?

This is a hot story about second chances being better than the first time around and the journey of reconciliation makes for a gripping read.

Colton is a man who knows he has to grovel to get his mate back. He’s strong, confident, cocky and is willing to bend and do whatever it takes to be the man back in Michi’s life. He has a secret that caused him to hurt his mate and he’s done something radical and life changing to correct it and be worthy of regaining her trust. He’s the prominent character in this book and he is the perfect focal point.

Michipi is the woman Colton left. She has never gotten over him but she certainly has moved on with her life and has made the best of things. She has to be a very determined woman to succeed as she has and her inner strength will hold her in good stead when she gets the shock of her life. I chuckled at the mentioning of her files and papers – it provided a humorous slant to the chaos the Colton brought back into her life.

Larkin is a treat. He is the sensual sidekick and glue that brings them the humor and joy of life both Colton and Michipi need. He’s also quite inventive with fruit. I liked Larkin because his character made me smile. And I believe he has hidden depths based upon a few revealing internal dialogue scenes.

The relationship scenes between Larkin and Colton, Colton and Michipi, or when all three finally get together are all very well written and extremely hot. They were well placed throughout the story and enhanced my reading pleasure.

There is a surprise external conflict I didn’t expect and it moved this story from a good read to a really great read. I can definitely recommend this book to any reader of romantic sci-fi fantasy stories because it has all the best elements to entertain, keep a reader’s interest and a happily-ever-after that really satisfies.
