When a drunk driver leaves the beautiful and talented Claudia Peters, hairdresser to the stars, deprived of both her lucrative profession and her sense of self worth, her husband Andre fears the worst. Claudia’s sinking into a vortex of depression. Then Dante appears. The handsome physical therapist needs a place to live — and Andre and Claudia need his combination of tough love and Machiavellian cajolery to revive their spirits. But Dante wants more than just a job — he’s falling in love — with both of them! Andre can accept sharing Claudia with Dante. But can he accept sharing himself?
“Room to Play” is an engaging short story that not only provides some hot ménage scenes, but also some good character growth within its brief pages. Claudia, former star stylist, is appropriately angry and frustrated after she‘s severely injured in a car accident–but she learns to heal her heart and her body thanks to the talented, patient, and extremely good-looking Dante. Dante is a great character, comfortable with his own bi-sexuality and attentive to both Claudia and Andre in the bedroom. Andre is the most interesting character here: he’s grateful for Dante’s help, and he enjoys watching the man make love to his own wife, but he’s hesitant to try the new waters of male-male loving that Dante suggests. The ways in which Andre slowly comes to terms with his own wants and needs was well done.
My only complaint about this story is the unrealistic way in which Claudia seems to recover from her injuries. In the beginning, she’s confined to a wheelchair, and even after she gains strength, she can’t descend stairs or dress herself easily. However, at the same time, she’s also walking around in sky-high heels and having acrobatic sex in the shower, the bedroom, and on the living room rug. Dante may be a good therapist, but I’m not sure he’s that good!
That lapse in logic aside, “Room to Play” features some hot sex scenes and some nice characterization as this threesome’s relationship develops–in more ways than one!
