I liked just about everything connected with this story. Horse ranch, Southern hunk, a touch of mystery and suspense and yes, a love story. Johnson does a superb job in drawing you quickly into this story. I enjoyed the opening and felt like I really knew Jack after reading just the first few pages. He’s likeable, he’s been hurt, and you hope he finds the woman of his dreams.

Enter, Nicki into the story and you think, here’s a girl for him, problem is, she’s carrying a deep dark secret. And the author stirs up more trouble for them and your peace of mind when you find out someone filed a missing person report on Nicki.

The pacing is dead perfect for this short read and I really felt like I was there at the ranch and in the South. Both Jack and Nicki seemed like real characters which I think was due to the natural sounding dialogue. The sex scenes were appropriately placed in this short read and weren’t overdone. Secondary characters were also well drawn too.

If you’re looking for a quick read on the cooler days of fall, I’d recommend this one to you.
