Keeping it Sexy with Virg

I have a confession to make. I write dirty books.

Yes, this means that some of the books I write have pictures of headless heroes on the covers. They aren’t bodice rippers since most of my books are set in a contemporary world—and we don’t wear bodices—but there are a few scenes where buttons go flying off men’s shirts or women shoot their bras across the room like red lace sling shots.

I should be ashamed of myself.

But I’m not.

Falling in love is one of the biggest rushes. You feel beautiful. You don’t need to eat. The sky looks bluer and every texture and feeling is magnified to a point that you can’t help but revel in the glittering sensuality of life.

There is a lot of psychology involved in writing romance, at least good believable romance. For instance, the man who has complete control in the boardroom wants to give up that control in the bedroom. The woman who has no control in her day to day life, merely riding the rollercoaster of life during the day, loves to be the one…uh…on top in the bedroom.

Friends make good lovers but they bring all the weight and responsibility of the friendship to the romance. It is somehow easier to fall in love with someone that you might never see again…but if the person on the other end of the kiss that blows the top of your head off is someone that you need in your day to day life, that risk is much harder to take.

So to keep it sexy, really, you have to bring all that to your romance. If the people aren’t real, the reader can’t emotionally engage with them.

  1. Mmm. I do love some Virginia Romance. 😉

Lips of Velvet is romantic, sweet, but exciting too. A great book.

  2. Very true. you have to make a believable character. My favorite characters are the ones that are hugely flawed–just like everyone else.
I have read this book and find it fun and steamy. ^_^

  3. Thanks! Both of you 🙂
