Sergeant Bailey Stevenson and Captain David Wellmine keep dancing around their attraction to each other. Bailey is more than willing to take their friendship in a more intimate direction, but David can’t climb out from under his father’s thumb long enough to take the next step.

On St. Patrick’s Day, when Irish magic is strongest, a meddling elf gives Bailey and David a chance to step beyond their doubts and fears to embrace the love simmering below the surface between them.

But when the spell is over, will David break the chains of his father’s plans for him and give Bailey his heart, or will he break Bailey’s?

The portal has been closed. The dragon slayers are cleaning up the remaining mythological creatures from the Realm of Dreams. For Captain David Wellmine and Sergeant Bailey Stevenson, the dragons are metaphorical, and each man needs to come to terms with his own particular “dragon” in order to find true happiness in life.

Bailey is insecure because he feels no one can love him after his body was scarred in an explosion. For David, it is choosing love over family expectations. For both, it is the challenge of recognizing true love before it slips away from them. Can these two find their way to each other, with a little help from some magical friends? Can David go against all that is expected of him to choose his own path? Will Bailey discover his worth is more than his physical self?

The characters in TA Chase’s dragon series are a marvelous mix of human and myth. David is the strong, heroic military man looking for his father’s approval in all that he does. His only rebellion to date is his military career. He is attracted to Bailey, but is not ready to “come out” to his family. Bailey is intelligent, handsome and sweet, and dreams of David as more than a superior officer. Bailey knows he will be leaving the military as soon as the threat of the dragons is declared over. It is only after Mordred does a little behind the scenes manipulation that David and Bailey explore their feelings for each other.

I love TA Chase’s romances. He writes with a passion for the story, and his characters are real and compelling, as are the stories he weaves for them. When you read TA’s stories, gender doesn’t matter, feelings do. These two could be any couple in love, and facing the insecurities inherent in a new relationship.

I loved that we were able to spend time, not only with David and Bailey, but the heroes from the two previous books. These other characters are as richly detailed as our two main lovers. Catching up with Hugh, Kael, George and Mordred was fun, and watching how they interacted to bring David and Bailey together was fantastic. Do David and Bailey have a well deserved happy ever after? You have to read Fighting Dragons for the answer. But I recommend this to anyone who believes true love is real, no matter who is involved.
