Fairy tales can be so much more when written for grown-ups. In the hands of Bonnie Dee and Marie Treanor, we get gold. This story is rich in imagery and detail. I love the world these two ladies have created under our own world. It is a place I would like to spend time in.
Gwyneth is a strong woman, who knows what she wants. Her father’s misguided attempts to have her settled and comfortable are not necessarily her goals, but she goes along to keep him safe. When Ragnorak, King of the Underworld, aids Gwyneth, he sees in her the truth; that she is kind, loving and generous. He is attracted instantly, and over the three days helps Gwyneth to save her father and herself. Of course, Ragnorak is handsome and sexy, and everything any woman could want. Gwyneth realizes what a mistake marrying Midas was, but until Ragnorak appears to claim the child, she is content to help the kingdom behind the scenes. Ragnorak and his people are marvelously detailed, and the contrast between the two cultures becomes evident.
I loved the happy ever after, with all that it entailed. There could be no other ending that would work as well as this, and I recommend this to all of those who miss the fairy tales of their younger days.
