This is my first Elayne Vernon story. I have to admit, I’m not a huge historical fan, but this story was interesting enough to keep my attention. Ms. Vernon’s characters fit the time period and I felt a part of the surroundings. The plot has enough twists and turns to keep it moving.

Cassandra confounded me. She wanted the husband and it seemed she’d do whatever it took to get him. Although I thought she lowered her standards a bit, it worked for the story. I wasn’t her biggest fan to begin with, but her determination to rise above the lot she chose in life helped her grow on me.

Phillip was another conundrum. At first I got the impression he wanted one thing, and then he changes his mind. I give the man credit for going for what he wants, but I wish he’d have said something a tad quicker. Just seemed like a lot of waiting, but when things finally happened… wow.

There was a twist at the end that made this read totally worth it. I didn’t see it coming and it fit perfectly.

If you want a steamy story for a chilly spring night, then you need to read Constant in Love. I give it 4 cherries.
