This lets any new readers pick right up on the action while those fans of the series will love a chance to revisit Peter and his hapless investigation. The plot is filled with humor and hijinks as Peter fumbles his way from one seemingly separate case to the other. Once again the writing is top notch, as expected of Kimberling. The fast pace and humor laced into the story makes this quick and delightful read. Peter and Nick return as a solid, happy couple that still has a few things to work out. It’s nice to see the progression of their relationship as they move from their beginning stages to a more settled aspect. Yet the kinks aren’t entirely worked out and between their hot chemistry and great one liners, this story is simply fun to read.
This is a good introduction to the series with its wacky elements and off the wall characters. The story is meant to be over the top, ridiculous in a tongue in cheek kind of way. It’s trying to make you laugh and appreciate the exaggerated town and its even kookier residents. If you can suspend disbelief and indulge in the humor and roller coaster actions, then this quick bite will be enough to please and satisfy.
