When Petyr had to choose between the fated mate he hardly knew and his pregnant former lover, he told himself rejecting Rollo was his only option. Even when life brought him more heartache, he felt it was all worth it when he looked into his children’s eyes.

Rollo never forgot about his fated mate. When Petyr shows up on his doorstep in the middle of the night, there’s no time for joy as Rollo finds out all his mate has been through since they parted. Petyr is dying, and though Rollo’s blood could save him, he asks for nothing more than Rollo’s promise to care for his children.

But this time, Rollo isn’t going to give up. The gods have given them both a second chance, and he’s going to prove that to his mate.

In a historical world where years are given names, we get the opportunity to see a second chance in motion.

Petyr met his fated vampire mate but did the right thing when Nora told him she was pregnant. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Petyr is left holding two babies when he finds out he is ill himself. Thinking only of his children, he returns to Rollo to ask for help. Rollo is prepared to do more than help the children and makes no bones about wanting Petyr to return to him.

This was a lovely read with more emphasis on the relationship between these two rather than just a tumultuous roll in the hay. There isn’t much ‘detail’ here which seems absolutely perfect for this story. Time moves on so you don’t feel like Rollo and Petyr are rushing into things.

I thoroughly enjoyed the world-building in here and the characters were a delight. I would love to read more in this series, and I sincerely hope Jonah has his HEA.

A wonderful, gentle read that I absolutely recommend.

RJ Banks, 20, is psychic. Her gifts are her dreams, which are riddled with cryptic hints about the location of the world’s most wanted criminals. This isn’t an accident. RJ, who believes that dreams are just our brains working through recent half thoughts, images, and impressions, deliberately immerses herself in details about these real-life villains in hopes her psychic brain will give her answers the World Security League needs.

Her methods actually work, the reason she was able to help WSL agents find a dangerous cult leader on the run. Now she is trying to find a high-profile politician from Georgia who is also a murderer. Up until now, her dreams have come in threes with a trio of hints in each. While the dreams generally change in locale, theme, and intensity, the hints in each are the same…sort of. A river in one could be an ocean or pond in another. RJ keeps a dream journal to help her figure out the common denominators, in this example water. But the challenge doesn’t end there. Is her assigned villain in a swimming pool? In a bathtub? Or watering his lawn?

Nate, her supervisor suggests driving might be smarter. He also recommends that she hire a bodyguard to go with her and even gives her a name: Wyck Hardy. Wyck isn’t a full-time professional, but does have experience in personal protection. In spite of the fact that he thinks psychics are psycho, RJ hires him. Maybe this trip with be an eye opener for him. Or will it be an eye opener for her?

Love doesn’t always show up when you expect it to. For that matter, neither do mysteries!

There was some fabulous chemistry between RJ and Wyck that played out in a beautifully slow fashion. Their banter was on point and they seemed just aware enough of the sparks flying between them for me to wonder when one of them might finally act on it. I appreciated the fact that things moved so slowly between them, too. That was perfect for their personalities even though I was eager to see if they make as good of a match for each other as I thought they might.

I would have liked to see more attention paid to the mystery elements of the storyline. They were an important part of why RJ’s road trip unfolded the way that it did, and things felt a little unbalanced to me when it came to how much time was spent on this when compared to the paranormal and romantic plots.

The dialogue was smooth and felt natural to me. Each time I read the passages that included a lot of conversations between RJ and the various folks in her life, it felt like I was listening to two people talk instead. These sections couldn’t have been written better. They were a joy to experience.

This novella is the eighth in a series, and it works well as a standalone piece. I’d only read one of the previous installments and had no problem catching up with what had happened since then.

Dream Job? should be read by fans of the romance, paranormal, and mystery genres alike.

What fun dialogue this book had! Josephine had been around for hundreds of years, and yet she spoke just like any modern person would. I appreciated the fact that she kept such a close eye on current language trends during her visits to Earth. It made her feel relatable, especially when she was speaking to humans who didn’t realize she was a witch.

There were several plot threads that were left dangling by the final scene. While I totally understand why some them would be saved for future reference in possible upcoming sequels, having so many of them mentioned but not resolved in any way was a little frustrating for me as a reader. It would have been helpful if even one of them was brought to its natural conclusion.

The banter between Josephine and Clarence was truly delightful. I can’t say they liked each other very much the first time they met, but I did sense that they were pretty intrigued with each other. They had much more in common than either one realized in the beginning, including painful pasts and uncanny abilities to ignore social conventions on purpose in order to see what would happen next. Not only did this provide plenty of opportunities for them to get sucked into amusing conversations together, it also made me wonder when their mutual dislike of each other might evolve into love.

This is the third installment in a series. It can be read as a standalone work.

I’d recommend Root Brew Float to anyone who is in the market for something lighthearted.

Ethan “Wolf” Whitefeather has just returned from a difficult mission and wants to reconnect with his Native tribe and family. When his tribe refuses to allow drilling on their land, Wolf expects things to be clear-cut, until he meets Yasmine, the beautiful daughter of the lawyer trying to negotiate for rights. Both Wolf and Yasmine quickly discover that neither of them is exactly what the other expected. Can they find a way to work together?

I found this to be an interesting and fast-paced story. While I have read the previous story in the series – Bones – it’s not at all necessary as readers should find this tale stands really well by itself. Both Wolf and Yasmine’s characters are well rounded and I enjoyed getting to know them both before they admitted their attraction to one another. While Yasmine’s father was a little overblown, he was an excellent villain and served as a good contrast between the other characters.

I felt that the pace of this story moved a little slower than I expected. With only the one main plot – Yasmine’s father being determined to drill on Wolf’s tribe’s land – there was only a few ways that the plot could move forward so it felt like it dragged a little in places. I admit I enjoyed the numerous interactions between Yasmine and Wolf, both of them surprising and infuriating each other at multiple points. While they were definitely attracted to each other I didn’t always feel the heat or spark between them – I thought at times they really struggled to see where the other was coming from. While this really appealed to me in that it made the story more realistic and believable, I was disappointed that at times it made me question the sexiness or chemistry and compatibility between them.

I was really pleased when toward the end of the story the rest of Wolf’s team came to help him when he really needed them. While this story doesn’t show the depth or love and camaraderie as well as the first story in this series, I feel it gives a good enough indication to the reader of just how close and tightly knit together the team is. I also absolutely loved how there were a few twists and turns in the plot, so even when I thought I knew what was going on the story still managed to surprise me.

A good read and I definitely hope to read the next installment.

After being teased about a scary urban legend of “The Lady on the road” by her older brother, a teenage girl drives to her friend’s house on a Friday night to hang out. After leaving her friend’s house, she decides she’s going to prove to her brother that “The Lady on the Road ” urban legend is just that…

The protagonist of this story is an eighteen-year-old who has heard her older brother’s story about a very creepy lady on the road for years. The story features a ghost driver’s encounter before disappearing.

Of course the star of this tale doesn’t quite take the legend seriously. She decides to go out one evening in search of entertainment. Not finding enough of it, she dares herself to go down the road of nightmares.

That seems like a stupid thing to do, but in the real world, people would most likely laugh off the lore as a stupid story, so this character will probably be all right and later have a good laugh about her adventures. She could boast of being brave. She seems like a normal young lady, and readers will find themselves curious. Will something bad happen? Will there be a surprising ending?

The mood of the story starts out as suspenseful then gets dark. The secondary characters support the storyline just right, and the setting is well done. This is a quick, entertaining read.

Normally, I’d discuss stories in a short collection like this individually. Due to fact that all eight of them were pieces of flash fiction, however, I will only be mentioning the ones that I can talk about without giving away spoilers.

A set of brilliant quadruplets were the main characters in “The Invention.” Each one of them excelled in a different specialty, and they were now ready to come together and share their knowledge after all four of them had completed their PhD studies. I really liked the enthusiasm of these characters. They were so determined to use their knowledge and intelligence to change the world. With that being said, they were written in such a way that made them seem much younger than their actual ages. They were as impulsive as young teenagers at times for reasons I never understood. It would have been helpful to have an explanation for this whether it involved them being at least a decade younger than I assumed or their behavior being a side effect of their many gifts.

As someone who deeply dislikes setting my clock forward and back for Daylight Savings Time twice a year, I was immediately drawn to the idea of this having unforeseen consequences for Helena, the protagonist of “The Weird and Wicked Daylight Savings Mystery.” She was so shocked by what really happened when she moved her clock ahead one hour that I couldn’t wait to find out why her life changed so much between evening and morning. The explanation for that was interesting, but I do wish it had been explained in more detail. It felt rushed to me, especially once Helena began to dig deeply into why her memories of her old life so contradicted her new one.

Before you read any more of this paragraph, stop and savor the humor in a title like “The Hamster Who Outsmarted the Prankster God.” It’s a splendid foreshadowing of what is to come in this tale as a prankster god named Adeben met his match in the furriest and least likely of all foes. This was by far the best part of this collection. It was funny, unpredictable, and filled with twists that made me grin.

Beyond: A Short Story Anthology of the Paranormal should be read by anyone who enjoys short and delightfully odd science fiction.

Lately, Chloe’s been leaving Sophie out, and she doesn’t know why. Sophie does everything she can to make her best friend happy, but it’s not working. Then Chloe asks Sophie to fib to a teacher to help her out and she learns the true meaning of friendship.

Ms. Ellis has done it again with a new look into Sophie and her friends’ adventures in life. This time, Sophie learns just how hurtful it can be when your best friend suddenly seems to turn against you for no reason.

I can remember back to those days and those feelings. Ms. Ellis perfectly catches the emotions, and children in this age group will certainly be able to relate. The writing is smooth and easy, clear and descriptive, and I felt more like I was watching a show instead of reading a book. The characters are three-dimensional. Sophie definitely has her faults, which is refreshing, but I love that she and her friends learn from their experiences.

Highly recommended for elementary school students, boys and girls.
