Jason Wieland’s life partner died in a horrific hate crime two years before and he hasn’t taken a lover since. He knows it’s time, and he reaches out to the 1Night Stand dating service to find the right man to light up his holiday. But when masculine, sexy, and extremely straight Mark shows up, he doesn’t know what to do.

Is this 1Night Stand a cruel joke or has Madame Eve truly worked Christmas magic?

Jason is having second thoughts. He’s let his good friend, Molly, convince him that a night in a lavish Vegas hotel – and a one night stand – is a good idea. It’s been two years since his partner was killed, and Jason hasn’t been with anyone since then. Mark is ready to finally live out his fantasy. Having only recently come out to a small number of people, Mark is still incredibly nervous about his sexual orientation. But both Mark and Jason are in for a few surprises, and a very Merry Christmas.

There was a small twist at the start that took me totally by surprise. It was an excellent way to add tension to this short story without detracting either from the sexy romance of it or feel too clichéd. I thought it really helped to add an edge between Jason and Mark too. Despite Jason’s (well founded) reservations, the two men quickly end up in bed and I found the sex between them scorching hot. The sex scene is erotic and of a good length, especially considering how short the story is. But I would have loved more of it. A follow-up sex scene, or even the hinted at BDSM scene – something after the emotional resolution would have rounded this story out perfectly to my mind.

I really enjoyed how the author gave a good amount of plot for this short story. This wasn’t all about the sex, but also about a real hurt in Jason’s past, and a big decision for Mark’s present and future. There wasn’t just a few throwaway lines here, but what I thought was a good, solid amount of plot. The characters were also real and complicated. Die-hard romantics should be warned there is a Happy For Now ending – but personally I feel there is definitely a positive spin to the conclusion and only the most hard-core Happily Ever After readers could find fault with it.

Overall I really enjoyed the short story. While a bit more sex would have been icing on the cake, this was a good, strong story and I’ll happily read more of Ms Snow’s work. Recommended.

Ian has his own dark reasons for contacting Madame Evangeline for a no-strings-attached night of desire with a beautiful stranger. He’s got something to prove to himself and a long road to recovery after losing his wife. His redemption may begin with Marley, but can she teach him to love again?

Marley Arbuckle is on a mission. Instead of being a new bride for the New Year – to the man she’d dated since college, no less – she was going to a New Year’s party all alone and woefeully jilted. A day at the spa, primping and being glamourized to the point she hardly knew herself, Marley is determined to enjoy the party and her one night stand. This will get her back on track, she’s certain. Besides, what happens in Vegas, stayed in Vegas. Ian O’Keefe is also trying to mend his broken heart. With strict instructions to “Wow” Marley he’s both nervous and expectant of a wonderful evening.

I really enjoyed the characterization of both Marley and Ian. The author did an awesome job of making them both realistic, vulnerable and interesting all at once. There’s a nice amount of “getting to know you” before Marley and Ian jump into bed. While I was eager for the one night stand to begin, it was well worth the waiting, and felt a lot more intimate to me knowing more about each of the characters and how they came to use the services of Madame Eve. The sex is hotly written and while I felt it shorter than I would have hoped for, it certainly packed a punch.

Readers will likely enjoy how even when the sex is over, both Marley and Ian stick together. This is no wham-bam-thank you-ma’am one night stand, but grows quickly into something far more fulfilling. I feel the author has done an amazing job with the chemistry between Marley and Ian. Their connection is believable, even for two recently seriously hurt people. I enjoyed the mixture of them convincing themselves one minute that this was only a one night stand, then the next instant asking cat or dog preferences. The chemistry and connection felt real to me – and that glosses over any realism concerns I entertained of the emotional danger of trying to turn a one night, no strings fling into something more. The romantic in me closed my eyes to reality and enjoyed being swept away by the story.

A great novel with strong characterization I really enjoyed this story. It has a Happy For Now ending with a strong romantic link and the promise for more. I found it had a good mixture of hot sex and time for the characters to get to know each other. This is a good read I can strongly recommend for most romance readers.

Geneviève Mortimer is a will o’ the wisp who hunts demons to ease the pain of her troubled past.

When Madame Eve brings them together for a torrid 1Night Stand, will they be able to come in from the cold at last?

Spokane Raines – Spook – is in Paris on a mission. Genevieve Mortimer – Genny – is a demon hunter, and a damn good one, despite her outward appearance of a ditzy, free-spirited, carefree lady of leisure. And she’s hunting a tricky demon right now – Spook. Spook however has next to no memory of his time before the agency, and certainly he has no knowledge of the demon-blood coursing through his veins. Genny can sense Spook thinks he’s human, but she knows he’s not. But once they come face to face, the chemistry between them is undeniable and overwhelming. They both realise that with each other they can come in from the cold outside, and get some serious heat built up between them.

This is a fun, seriously sexy story filled with lust and amazing chemistry. I really enjoyed how when they finally came together Genny owned her sexuality and kept pace with Spook through every touch and lick. There are plenty of strong secondary characters from Sleepy Hollow. Readers who have read the previous novels will almost certainly enjoy the catch ups with all of them, but this shouldn’t detract first time readers either. Genny and Spook’s story is front and centre and while it might be clear there are other stories you’ve missed, I found I could happily read this without the others.

There is tons of backstory filled in here. I found the author’s creativity was awesome and was really impressed with the depth of her world. I did, however, find it a little disorientating to read an action packed, paranormal spy story chock-full of slang and ultra modern street-talk. The two don’t seem to mesh well in my mind and while the author does a good job of it, I found the slang terms and modern speech patterns disjointing to read while also reading about Spook kicking ass and finding a computer chip he’d been on a mission to find. Many readers might find this far more comfortable than I – even enjoyable – but I found personally it kept pulling me out of the strongly paranormal storyline.

I feel that readers who have enjoyed previous Sleepy Hollow books will greatly enjoy this – especially the extra background that is divulged. I also think this book should appeal to readers who are fans of Ms. Kincaid’s style and other books. This is a fun, seriously sexy read with plenty of plot, action and a whole host of varied and interesting secondary characters. A great read.

Given as a reward to the huntress, Faith is beyond terrified. According to rumors, these less-than-human slayers share too many qualities with the creatures they kill for a living, but Faith can’t deny the strange spark between Valac and her.

If Faith is capable of invoking unbridled passion then the best thing Val could do is stay away, but when Faith’s life hangs on the balance, can Val risk all to save her?

Sometimes love shows up when you least expect it.

This book had a strong opening scene that described the main character gathering mushrooms early one morning outside of the city gates. What I found most appealing about it was how much it revealed about Faith and her society to anyone who paid close attention to what the narrator did and did not say about them. Within the span of a few pages I had a good first impression of Faith’s personality as well as a few theories about why the people in her community were so afraid to wander away from the gates. There is definitely something to be said for such subtle foreshadowing.

I would have preferred to meet a smaller number of characters in this story so that there could be enough time for their personalities to fully develop. Alternatively, the plot could have been stretched out into a full-length novel in order to explain the character’s backstories and relationships in greater depth. Getting to know so many characters in such a short period of time was overwhelming, though.

The monsters were creepy. They were described in ways that briefly sketched out what they looked like and how they could be expected to behave, but I was happy to see that there was still plenty of room for me as a reader to imagine what it would be like to stand next to one. In this case, that was a smart decision. While I don’t know if the author is planning to write a sequel, it would be interesting to see how she approaches these creatures in the future if she does.

I’d recommend Faith to anyone who likes sexy science fiction.

This was an extremely easy read. It went so smoothly. It was a non-stop read for me. I especially loved the main characters. Not to say that the secondary characters were bad. In my opinion every one of the characters glowed.

The reunion for the professor and the student and what transpired after that was what made it an amazing read. It was descriptive without being too much. The story had multiple POV’s that allowed me to understand both of them.

Passionate History allowed me to travel with Bree from her college life to her career since it encompasses around five years.

Bree is a sweet and independent girl. I would have loved to know more about how much of a distinct difference there was in Bree emotionally during the five years encompassed in this story.  However, I loved the story and would surely love to read more of this author.

This was a short erotic but sweet read that any romance lover should like.

When Macen meets Riletta on the very first day in the university Macen has this overwhelming feeling to protect her.

This is about a shifter who has been demeaned, degraded and kept in less than tasteful conditions, and her flight to freedom and love.

For me the one thing that makes this whole series or book different than any other book was Riletta and who she really was. Not to say that the book as a whole was not engaging. I multitask a lot, even when I am reading a book. Rare is a book nowadays that could pull me in completely and make me come back again and again. The author did a wonderful job doing that.

However, I have one small problem with the wordings in the whole book. This is a New Adult erotic book. Not a young adult. But every now and then some of the characters would slip into dialogue that reminded me of children or young adults or teenagers. I understand that Phoenix Rising is set at a university and both the main characters are students. But somehow I kept thinking that the way they talked was not in complete synch with the whole story and their characters.

Ms. Carnes did a wonderful job of portraying the different sides of Macen that endeared me to him. At the same time it was touching to see the progress in Riletta with the help of some special characters. I do hope there is a second book in this in the near future. I will be looking out for the latest book. I want to know more about who Riletta is and what she could do.

I enjoyed this story about an alpha with a protective instinct and a shifter who has yet to find her true potential.

A sexy, wounded SEAL, a teacher, a raunchy calendar and a Haunted House at Halloween. What more could you possibly want in a story? With some fun secondary characters (I love the camaraderie between Matt and his dad) this is a wonderful book. Steamy chemistry sizzles between Jenesi and Matt from the first page, but I thought there wasn’t anything outrageous enough to make me blush while reading it on the train. Personally I would have liked it if the sexual pace had moved a bit faster. While I enjoyed the tension level cracking and rising between Matt and Jen, the erotica reader in me would have liked a bit more sparks and explosions sexually between them. Having said that, there was nothing lacking in the chemistry department between these two.

I was a little disappointed with how Jen reacted when Matt got his orders, but I felt it was also a logical, understandable response. Trust takes time to build, though I wish she’d taken the plunge earlier, you can’t fault her for trying to protect her heart. Jen and Matt’s need for each other is clear and both have other baggage going on and I felt this was really well written. This book does a good job of juggling two complicated people with a need for each other coming together.

Readers looking for a warm-hearted romance with a bit of spice should enjoy this as much as I have. Jen and Matt find their way together – unable to be apart after longing for each other for years – and the sparks between them are delicious. When they finally come together, I found it explosive and satisfying. I thought the author does a good job of taking some serious topics and adding laughter and a lightness to it (shout out to Momo the dog!) and overall makes this a fun, sexy read. Recommended.

August is back, looking for a second chance, and this time he isn’t letting Lissa walk away without a fight. Gunny has given up everything, including the Marine Corps, for a second chance with the woman he loves. Madame Eve has given him one night to prove to Lissa he’s all she ever wanted—that he can still be her Prince Charming. Fail, and she’ll marry another man in the morning.

For this Marine—failure is not an option.

Lissa and her husband of twenty two years, August are attending their youngest child’s graduation ceremony. Lissa is proud of her baby boy, but also nervous. Now when August is deployed her home will be empty. Barren. For more than twenty years she’d been the perfect Marine wife, patient and understanding, willing to move and leave her friends and family behind and raise their children almost single-handedly. But now it’s her turn. Lissa decides since August won’t leave the Marines, she’ll leave him. August finally realizes the mistake he made in letting Lissa go, but is it too late for them to start again?

I found this to be a realistic and romantic story. Well past their first blush of youth, and the crazy lust that comes with it, both Lissa and August are sympathetic characters. Both stubborn, the circumstances they find themselves in are understandable. I was a little disappointed they didn’t try and talk their relationship though right back when Lissa aired her problems with how their relationship had eroded. Lissa packing up and leaving immediately after their youngest son’s graduation seemed a little hasty. While I could see where she was coming from, and August’s refusal to quit the Marines was certainly a strong instigator, throwing away such a long marriage with no discussion and just leaving spur-of-the-moment was difficult to take in.

I really enjoyed the idea of the one night stand though. I thought this was a creative idea, and certainly a good way for Lissa and August to reconnect. I was pleasantly surprised at a number of August’s moves and the lengths he was willing to take to prove to Lissa he was serious. The author has gone a commendable job of injecting freshness into romance of the story and the characters shine for it. The twist at the end was a little clichéd, I guessed part —but not all — of it. But I really enjoyed August finding his inner Prince Charming and the genuine love between he and Lissa.

I thought this was a strong romance, spicy but not kinky enough to make me blush. The characters really make this story fantastic. I’d happily read more by the author.

I loved how it started. It pulled my attention in right away. From the first sentences to when all three met it was very good and my expectations were high. But after they met there was a time jump and it made my attention flag. The management and organizing of the Christmas celebration was shortened. For me, I would have like to know at least how much time was skipped. Nevertheless, seeing as this is a short story I think it’s a pretty good rendition of a Christmas read with a lot of heat.

One other thing that grabbed my attention was ‘Madam Eve’ and the 1NightStand service. There was not much of an explanation who Madam Eve was or enough explanation about 1NightStand for someone like me who is new to the series. I wanted to know more. These issues aside the story in and of itself was good and worth the read.

Yes, it is a short story, but a perfect Christmas read about family, love and Christmas. All the good things in life.

Although he begs Lara to stay in Los Lobos where she’ll be safe, she can’t turn her back on her pack. As her mate, Ogden is bound to protect her, but following her means risking his home and his very life. Are they willing to pay the price?

It was a pretty good read. This book easily snagged my interest because I love shifter stories. However, it was the strong plot, with engaging characters and a fairly steamy romance that pulled me in and had me reluctant to put it down until the end.

This book broke my heart right from the beginning, when tragedy set Lara Wolfe on a mission to fulfill her mother’s last wish. “The Black Hills of South Dakota. Your destiny is there.” So was her mate, who as it turned out, happened to be hiding a few secrets of his own. Ogden Woods had a few problems, and at first Lara wasn’t sure that he was the wolf for her. The funny thing about this story, and maybe the part that intrigued me the most, was how they had that instant connection and still very nearly turned their backs on the mating. To me that was what made this story original to most shifter books. They didn’t like each other either and had some misunderstandings between them. It was a conflict that made the book more interesting. While I never fully understood the reasoning behind Ogden’s deception, I did like the way he resolved it in the end.

For a short story, this book was one of the better ones I’ve read. It was well written and the plot was fast moving. It covers a brief time span so I couldn’t get into it quite as much as I’d have liked. Yet I found it very enticing to discover it is part of a series as this is what I actually prefer to read. I liked all of the characters and I’m rather curious about the rest of the Black Hills Wolves Stories. Something to look forward to reading later.

I enjoyed this one. I think that Alpha In Disguise is most certainly a book that anyone would enjoy as well. I recommend it to my fellow shifter lovers.
