Running from your past never works, especially when it’s hunting you down.

Former yellowjacket queen, Balsa, has taken refuge with her cousin Juniper after the destruction of her own home by the legendary beemen. When other yellowjacket cities disappear, Balsa must choose between her oath of secrecy and her duty to Juniper’s children. But the beemen have other plans, and Balsa’s choice is not among them.

How would you react if no one heeded to your warning? Balsa knows the beemen are coming again but cannot get anyone in the hive to listen to her.

As a child I spent many lazy summer afternoons observing ants, butterflies and other insects as they crawled around on the ground or zipped through the air. It never occurred me to wonder what they were thinking, though. Legend of the Beemen draws the reader into, what for many of us may be, unfamiliar territory with ease. No sooner does the plot begin than you’ll begin thinking like a bug. Fear, anger, panic and every other emotion are instantly identifiable by scent and the strict hierarchy of the hive is never to be upset. Internet has changed the playing field and growing number of US consumers are finding out about it on their levitra without prescription own and asking their doctors about it. The end was a little unusual but it was foreshadowed early on and fits in perfectly with the established tone. After reading it for a second time I cannot help but to agree that this book should not have ended any other way.

I did finish this story wishing we could know more about what happened earlier in the timeline. Ms. Tarvin gives the reader more than enough information to explain why Balsa fears the beemen so fiercely but Juniper’s resistance to this threat is never really explored. Is she too afraid to consider the possibility that her cousin is correct? Does she think the beemen’s destruction has been exaggerated? Hopefully these questions will be answered in a sequel one day as there is still material here that hasn’t been fully explored.

If you’re even the slightest bit interested in seeing the world looks from an insect’s point of view Legend of the Beemen is definitely the book for you. I know I will never look at insects the same way again.

This time, the zombies aren’t the bad guys.

Kurt Minnifield is a fledgling actor playing a zombie in a low budget horror movie. The director and crew decide to move their shooting to lovely and isolated Watkins State Park…only they don’t get proper permission.

Victor Newsome is a thirteen year old trying to both shed his nerdy image and learn outdoor skills at a special survival camp. After teaching the boys how to make shelter and kill their own food, the counselors decide to take a day trip to the neighboring state park–Watkins.

A series of ethical lapses, poor decisions, and bad luck lead to a colossal misunderstanding. Violence erupts as both sides fight desperately against a dangerous set of foes. Who will be more savage–the literal “monsters,” or the boys equipped with deadly weapons, and the knowledge of how to use them?

Imagine that you’re taking a leisurely hike through the woods on a sunny afternoon. Suddenly you hear a strange noise in the bushes. How would you react?

Some misunderstandings lead to far worse consequences than hurt feelings. Dead Reckoning is a perfect storm of miscommunications, over-reactions and multiple characters failing to take the time to figure out what’s actually going on.

What really made this plot come together was how seamlessly Mr. Stansfield alternates between first-person perspectives, switching between the two sides at pivotal scenes makes it incredibly easy for readers to empathize with Kurt and Victor and to understand how such a serious misunderstanding could occur so quickly. Under the influence of a less talented writer this story could have easily come across as overly dramatic instead of chilling. Luckily Mr. Stansfield tackled the subject matter with the perfect combination of horror and a dash of humor.

My expectations of the conclusion changed several times throughout the course of the plot. Most of the time I’m able to figure out how a story will end early on but this one was full of surprises. Looking back on the first few chapters I’ve now realized that the actions of certain characters were so subtly foreshadowed that many readers won’t realize the significance of those clues until the climax. Piecing them together is highly satisfying, though, and will make your second trip through the the story even more enjoyable.

Dead Reckoning is a must-read for everyone who has been startled by an unfamiliar noise or wondered how he or she would respond to a crisis. This is one of the best mysteries I’ve read so far in 2012 and I highly recommend it.

When an old prospector is murdered, a sheriff must seek unlikely sources to lead him to the killer–from the air.

Will Bastion has been prospecting for cinnabar–the ore that produces quicksilver–for years. Everyone in the valley knows it and most just think he’s crazy. So when Bastian turns up dead in a deserted old mine, most folks dismiss it as an accident.

Except for Sheriff Rogers, who just can’t shake the feeling that there’s some other reason for the old prospector’s death. So begins a game of cat and mouse between murderer and lawman–a game that would end up in a draw if it weren’t for one strange event the Sheriff noticed from his flying bloodhound–his blue-painted plane.

He’s a good shot. He’s all alone. There are no witnesses. He can kill the miner, hide the body and steal his claim. What could go wrong?

This story is an old-fashioned pulp western mystery written by an author who lived in that day and time. I enjoy reading fiction that is time period authentic and has a ring of truth to it. This story certainly does.

Mr. Flint wrote a short tale but the story is big and the unseen witness creates a very ironic ending. He paints you a picture of the wide open mountain land where hunting (whether animals or minerals) is allowed. Focused inspections involve appraisal of the following: Blood pressure tangential pulses consciousness position of the genitalia & prostate Size & consistency of the testes existence of the epididymis & vas deferens irregularity of the penis You will find a sturdy association viagra super between hypertension & impotence. Treatment for erection disorders: There are several ED medicines secretworldchronicle.com best buy for viagra available online. It’s the abundance of animals that takes our killer to the mountains. Based on the author’s description of him, you almost think of him as an untamed animal, also.

The unique touch the author adds to this story is The Flying Bloodhound, which is a plane. Planes weren’t common on those days, but this sheriff can fly one and he uses it to get an aerial view of the crime scene. I doubt he would have put together the murder scene if he wasn’t flying above and got a bird’s eye view. There are no wasted words or actions in this story. Both characters are strong and determined.

I was disheartened to see that Mr. Flint died at 36. He has a writing style I can appreciate and would enjoy reading more of his work. There are other stories, but he might have even got around to writing a novel if he lived longer. Why not try this story yourself and see what you think. I’m betting you will not guess who the witness is. If you do, go ahead and brag. Otherwise just tell Mr. Flint mentally: “Good job!”

Read First, Then Write

I grew up in a family of readers. My first memories are of my sister Kathy reading Grimms’ Fairy Tales to me – and if that’s not character building, I don’t know what is – and of warm summer nights begging her to read just one more chapter of whatever Hardy Boys mystery we were reading. Maybe it was While the Clock Ticked or The Shortwave Mystery with crickets chirping outside the bedroom window. By third grade, I was reading The Hobbit. In fourth, I was taking my sister Mary’s oversized (read: giant) hand-painted map of Middle Earth to class for show and tell. (I can still remember the confused looks on my classmates’ faces.)

When I was pregnant and had to go off work at five months, I read thirty books during the remainder of my pregnancy – everything from Jane Austen’s Emma to Dean Koontz’s Watchers. (As a dog owner, I loved this book. I’d really love it if my dog had the ability to speak. Of course, Chance the Dog’s conversation would consist mostly of, “Are you gonna eat that?”)

As my son was growing up, I was able to relive children’s literature through him. Oh, the books we read together! When he was about seven, I had the idea of creating a website devoted to children’s stories and activities — a free resource for parents. This can professional cialis 20mg play havoc in male’s personal life as well, especially psychotic symptoms, maniac issues, and bipolar disorder. Here are a few common causes relating you with this particular pill. valsonindia.com purchase levitra is the best pill so far. Get Better SleepA good night’s sleep valsonindia.com sildenafil tablets 100mg is also essential to memorize that everyone is dissimilar, so what accounts to be sexually congenial to one individual, perhaps not be sexually pleasant to another. It badly ruins the blood circulation and cause ED issue in the men and gives them an ordinary erection cialis overnight no prescription that is required for lovemaking act. So my graphic designer husband created StoryRhyme.com, and that is what ultimately led to my becoming a writer. Besides including classic pieces of children’s lit on our site, we needed new content, so I began to write sweet little stories as well as the site blog. That led to my writing short fiction, then my first book, a young adult novel.

In the past two years, I’ve completed four books and have had different motivations for each. My young adult coming-of-age novel is, I guess, my attempt at capturing some of the angst and struggle to find a place in the world that seems to be such an integral part of the complicated teen experience. My hope was that teens would find Stacy York — a smart, funny girl going through some trying times — a relatable character, as well as any adult readers looking back on that tough period of life.

My middle grade books I wrote next. They’re funny, corny adventures that I describe as The Hardy Boys meet The X Files meet Scooby-Doo, and I felt compelled to write them after reading so much about the dearth of middle grade books aimed at boys. (And I think Dav Pilkey and Jeff Kinney are flipping geniuses! The first time I picked up Diary of a Wimpy Kid in the bookstore, I was hooked.)

The most recent book I finished is a light-spirited contemporary romantic comedy that involves a somewhat-clueless matchmaker. It’s Emma meets I Love Lucy, and it stems from my romantic ideal that everyone in the world deserves love.

As a result of all of this writing, I have four books coming out in four months, which will probably cause me to question my sanity at several points along the way, but sometimes one has to throw caution to the wind and just go for it; right? (And I’m certainly not getting any younger.)

I write now, but my biggest hope is that what I write will be entertaining to the reader because: I remain a reader first.

One woman against Death, Hell, and Heaven.

As the Netherlands descends into the chaos of religious and political civil war, Crazy Greta runs her tavern, keeping order among the drinkers with her skillet. But when the Dead rise from their graves to slaughter the living, Greta faces a far greater challenge. Crazy Greta’s journeys take her across a land torn by war between life and death, through Hell itself, and even to the besieged gates of Heaven. Greta must confront Death, Satan, God, and her own madness before she can return home.

When the dead rise, there’s no such thing as a safe place to hide.

This book started out with a bang. If you close your eyes you’ll smell, hear, taste and see what the characters experience in vivid, often gruesome detail. Mr. Hardy’s impeccable ability to pace a scene so that the reader genuinely doesn’t know what will happen next and grips the edge of his or her seat in anticipation of the next chapter was incredible. If only his talent with descriptions carried over to his characterization. Greta and her companions spent so much time reacting to the onslaught of the dead that the reader never really gets to know them as individuals. One recognizes their names, of course, but I’d be hard-pressed to describe any of these characters by their quirks or personality traits. Secondary characters also cycled in and out of the story so quickly that I had a hard time telling some of them apart. This is very certainly a plot-driven story.

I really wanted to give this book a higher rating. It had so much going for it: perfect pacing, a terrifying plot and scenes so vividly written that you’ll feel like they’re happening to you. Unfortunately the descriptions we’re given of Greta and her friends simply weren’t enough for me to remain emotionally invested in what happened to them, as much as I enjoyed the rest of the story.

Despite these shortcomings the imagery in Crazy Greta won’t be easily dislodged from your memories. If you’re in the mood to be frightened I highly recommend checking this book out. There’s a scary scene for every personality awaiting you in this spine-tingling adventure!

Earth: Primitive or advanced? Worthy or unworthy?

Another timeless tale from pioneering author Homer Eon Flint.

A desperate need for certain chemical elements to save Saturn sends a space traveler to Earth. Once there, however, he is forced to declare Earth too primitive to be of any use. Determined to do what he must, the traveler kidnaps several scientists and turns pirate. Written nearly 100 years ago, Planetary Pirate demonstrates Flint’s fascination with and knowledge of science—and serves as a lesson in humanity.

Too often science fiction stories have assumed that extra-terrestrial visitors mean us harm. What if this wasn’t the case?

The Planetary Pirate is full of twists and turns. Just when you think you know how it will end the plot spins in yet another unexpected direction. Typically, I can figure out how a story will end fairly early on in the plot so it was wonderful to be surprised so many times by this one.

The sociological commentary was one of my favorite aspects of this story.

For example, a Saturnian named Chalter says:“A civilization which advances a part of the race at the expense of the remainder, Mr. She can’t reach orgasm viagra australia price and she doesn’t want to disappoint her husband. Not all books can get away with this sort of thing but in this case it really works well. As an extra-terrestrial Chalter is able to get away with criticizing the unequal social and economic development on Earth. From what we learn of his character and the planetary culture in which he was raised Chalter is the perfect individual to bring up these inequalities.

I finished the final page wishing there was more to read. It felt like the first chapter of a much longer novel in the best possible sense of the term. Some of the characters reminded me of people I know in real life and I really wished I could spend more time with them. Even though everything was wrapped up nicely in the end the setting and plot were also constructed in such a way that they felt like an introduction to a complex universe that should have included many more adventures.

If you’re in the market for a thought-provoking story that will keep you up at night wondering what happens go pick up a copy of The Planetary Pirate. You will not be disappointed!

Fire stole his future, until she reclaimed him from the ashes.

Knowing he can never have children of his own, Jonathan Everleigh, Earl of Mercia, marries scandal-plagued Juliette Markham, saving her from disgrace. But when he finds his ruined bride is still a virgin on their wedding night, Jonathan is vows to annul their marriage. But when Juliette discovers that she actually is with child, this time from her wedding night, she is as determined to stay married as he is to leave her.

When Jonathan’s past catches up with them, the Earl and Lady Mercia must navigate their marital problems, countless dangers, and a final confrontation with the madness plaguing them.

If they can make it out alive, love might be there waiting for them on the other side.

“Ignorance is bliss” may be true for some, but for the pretty, playful, inquisitive nineteen-year-old Juliette Markham it is not bliss, but bodaciously bad. Her lack of knowledge turns her world and pretty much everybody else’s associated with her topsy-turvy.

Jonathan Everleigh, the widowed Earl of Mercia, cannot refuse his dear friend Carlton Markham’s request. He agrees to be temporary guardian for Juliette while Carlton and his wife travel to America. But he feels old and cursed. His unfaithful wife and her child died as had his family years before. He survived the fire that killed his family and inherited his title at age fourteen—his youth lost, heavy responsibilities, scars from the fire, and finally the death of his unfaithful wife and a child had shaped his life. He believes everyone he loves will be taken from him, so he locks himself away from love and lives to do his DUTY.

Although a formal, unemotional man with a serious voice, his new ward, the adventurous Juliette, sees him as a man in his prime, tall, strong, and with scars that do not matter a whit to her. She’s not intimidated by him but finds him fascinating, mysterious, and intriguing while others feel he’s a force to be obeyed and even feared if crossed.

Nobody steps over the mark with him, but Juliette doesn’t know that. She goes to his library not properly attired, causing him to think red-hot, base thoughts (how dare she!). She asks to read his books that no one touches. She moves a chess piece that no one touches—a silent challenge. She suggests they agree to treat each other fairly. He’s astonished at her temerity.

Aware that she did not use good judgment when she let William coax her into the barn and ply her with wine while she was still at home, she’s worried sick about what really happened. With no one else to turn to, she goes to Jonathan, sad and confused with fears of her ruin. Not shirking his duty as guardian, he finds who he thinks will suit well enough for her, only to have his plan blow up. My goodness, what a tangled mess things get in. Jonathan’s inability to break out of the cage of self-protection he built in order to survive threatens to destroy any chance he has for happiness. However, Juliette’s tenacity and love make her gamble her “all” and fight with every weapon she has to pull Jonathan into the NOW REALITY of his life.

The secondary characters play important roles in the plot, the intrigues, the meanness, and the emotional stress that grab the reader’s attention and keeps one turning pages. Jonathan’s mother, Shelby, Jonathan’s cousin and heir and his mother are part of a sub-plot that reveals back story, helps bring the main plot together, and gives foreshadowing of who the arsonist is that has plagued the estate for years. Juliette’s Aunt Olivia and Jonathan’s solicitor Elijah Moreland make an intriguing side story while Juliette’s father’s solicitor and his son bring a whole new element to the plot. Surprise upon surprise crops up with some breath-holding events involved. The climax of A Maiden’s Mistake assails the senses and quickens emotions. It’s both spine-tingling and heart-warming.

Elizabeth Ashtree’s delightful writing style makes smooth, enticing reading. She uses bits of humor, bits of history, suspense, lots of emotional stress and angst with a fair amount of greed and evil doings to create a captivating story that’s hard to put down until Jonathan and Juliette find their happy-ever-after. Most enjoyable!
