As a whole it’s a very good book but it’s not simply a romance, it’s supposed to be a Mystery/Suspense novel as well. That aspect of the story kept diminishing with every page I turned. It simply wasn’t as much of a focus as I thought it would be. The plot and the climax both were good though it was easy to guess the ending.

The story gives a glimpse of a small town. That’s a setting I love to read. The characters were well developed. I could probably explain every character but I don’t have enough time for that. The writing style of Miss Biggar allows me to understand both sides of this story which is a big plus in my book.

Rebel’s Redemption is the second book in the Wounded Heart series. I have not read the first book in this series but I am going to read it and will keep an eye out for Miss Biggar’s other books. The series can be read as a standalone but to get the most enjoyment I would suggest you to read from the start.

This book is listed as a dark read, and it is, but not too dark. A Dystopian world that is a bit warped where the natural order of things are not so natural. The upper class can’t seem to produce offspring, and they have a prevalent need for breeders.

I would think that in having the need for something, it would make someone treat it better. Not so much in this case. The breeders are treated worse than animals but yet without them… extinction of their race could be a real possibility.

In the outer rim of the colony it looks like breeding isn’t an issue, they have a decent way of life. But it’s also where the fight for food and medical supplies is constant. A leader of the village is given an offer he will be hard pressed not to accept. Rowan is a new and young breeder, something she always knew she would be. She’s horrified at the thought of being made to leave the colony to breed with a savage.

Ms. Knight sets the scene and builds the tension to the point of being harsh and extreme. Readers who don’t enjoy feeling anxious for the characters might struggle with this one. On the other hand, for readers who want to be transported into the darkness, this is spot on.

Some parts were intense… the exams were humiliating but did just what they were intended to do, keep Rowan, and some extent the reader, off balance and down. But then Rowan thinks of rebelling against what was happening to her but her body seemed to crave and respond.

Silas worked hard at trying to keep detached, his feelings in check. All that was important was the safety of his family and people. Or so he kept telling himself. Since this is romance, I wanted (needed) to like Silas and his reasons for being a part of this. Ms. Knight gives him likability and even though it’s unconventional, the romance is believable.

This was a second book I’ve had the pleasure in reading from this author and I really enjoy her writing. This book was a decent length and so far seemed a stand-alone, which I love. It is a bit dark, a bit edgy and sci-fi to a point. I’d recommend it as a good read for those who look for gritty and not so neatly wrapped romance.

I enjoyed The Rebel Doc Who Stole Her Heart quite a bit. I loved that the main characters were complete opposites when it comes to their world views. I really love that Michelle is so uptight and a bit of a control freak while Ty is all about living life and not a caring about schedules and being on time.

I found this story both sweet and heartwarming and it even had a good take away of running from problems never works. This story had a bit of spice, and I enjoyed the way it engaged me and even tugged at my emotions.

This story does a great job of allowing and showing both characters confronting their problems and growing. I love that it’s not just focused on one, that it shows that they both need to grow to be whole.

Another great story from Jayne Rylon and her Hot Rods Crew! In Rebel on the Run it is Bryce who gets his chance at love. As usual, Rylon has created one hell of a ride for this lusty crew. This one almost sent me and my kindle up in flames.

The Hot Rods Crew have all had some bad times. They’ve had some unique demons to slay. Bryce was a bit different, but with the same chip on his shoulder. His past comes back in this book, and it’s in the sexy form of a beloved friend. Kaelyn Duchamp can’t believe it when her old friend Bryce shows up to rescue her. She realizes that lies have been told, and at first she feels hurt and betrayed. Yet, she doesn’t stay mad for long. They can’t fight what they feel for each other, and Kaelyn embraces the sexual freedom that the entire Hot Rods Crew enjoy together.

It goes without saying that this book had some kinky love scenes, but it also had a good story to go along with that. There was nothing vanilla going on in this book. M/F, M/F/M, group sex scenes, back door action and voyeurism. Whatever floats your boat, it’s all in here. Don’t let that scare you off, though. It’s all done with feeling. These are guys and gals who truly care about each other, and Rylon shows that in their love scenes. She lets you feel it. That’s what is so good about her writing and makes it work for me.

This plot was okay, with most of the conflict being personal. No doubt that there was a nasty threat that drove Bryce onto the streets, and later sent Kaelyn on a flight for freedom. But for me, it lacked intensity because it happened outside of the moment. Overall, the book was well written, and flowed easily. I got the kinky love scenes and a happy ending. So I am a happy reader.

All in all, this was a fun, sexy read. I enjoyed it immensely. I am already looking forward to Holden and his lucky lady.

I found this bit of history in the making fascinating and I really loved the people involved. The King’s men against the rebels reminded me very much of our own American Revolution with our rebels against the King.

Deliverance and her sister, Patience lived in a castle which was under attack by the King’s men. Captain Luck Collyer is sent by their father to help protect them. They are so outnumbered I could not imagine how they could possibly manage to defeat the enemy. They are, however, prepared to fight to the death against all odds.

This is not, however, a depressing story. It is full of fun and conflict between Luke and Deliverance. She had been in charge of the castle and was not willing to give it up to him. I loved the interaction between them. It is wonderful, fun and unique. She was not the typical mousy woman that he had expected to find. I smiled a lot while reading about the conflict between them, and even laughed out loud a couple of times.

Throughout the siege there are two beautiful love stories. Yes two, although one is not mentioned as often. I enjoyed them both. There is also a lot of fighting, death and destruction from the very beginning, which is to be expected. However, all the fighting is important to the story line, and not just thrown in to explain the war. This author also lets you feel the hope for the future in the story.

This story doesn’t end the way I expected — it ends even better! Honestly, I loved this story.

The world building in this book first becomes evident by the sometimes odd ways in which the characters speak. Archaic words are effortlessly mixed in with futuristic slang and references to cutting-edge technology. Strictly speaking this isn’t steampunk, but I do see some influence from that genre in the ways in which the characters communicate about certain ideas. It took me a few chapters to adjust to some of their odder uses of syntax, but once I did I really enjoyed learning about how Cary and Krin think in particular based on the types of words they choose to use and how they string them together.

I never quite became comfortable with being introduced to a new scene only for it to end so rapidly. The inclusion of extremely short scenes works well in the introduction because of how quickly the plot heats up, but I would have preferred to have more time to settle into later scenes once various subplots begin to bump into one another.

Mr. Schultz’s scenery descriptions are not to be missed. The earth has changed a great deal over the past few thousand years, and the best passages in this story describe how humanity has adapted to some pretty extreme climate shifts in North America. Enough time has passed that none of these dangers are particularly newsworthy to characters who have never known any other way of life, but as a reader I really enjoyed quietly comparing their world to my own.

There was also a lot of telling instead of showing in this novel. Due to the large cast of characters I certainly wouldn’t expect every thought or emotion to be conveyed to the reader indirectly, but it was difficult to remain invested in what happened to certain individuals when so much of what I know about their personalities come from the author directly telling me what kind of people they are instead of uncovering it for myself.

What I liked most about this book was how intelligently the characters respond to the dangerous situations they find themselves trapped in. I may not have always understood why they made certain choices, but Cary and Krin were written in such a way that they honestly act and sound like two teenagers who grew up herding cattle on the steppes. They know how to react quickly in a crisis and are clearly used to thinking creatively and making the best of their resources.

I would recommend Truth-Teller Rebellion to anyone who has ever read a post-apocalyptic book and wondered how humanity would adjust to such a cataclysmic change in their circumstances over the course of several millennia.

Making their romance even more credible was the realization that these lovers had a lot in common. They both wanted to ditch the notoriety of their pasts and sometimes that is difficult to do . Much of the tension and conflict of this story stemmed from Vicki and Joel’s fight to overcome their pasts and grab onto a new future. The author made this glaringly clear with all the disapproval and harassment that the heroine had to endear. Even from some of the usually open minded Coleman clan.

What was disappointing was the rift that opened up between Joel and his twin, Jessie. It was sad to see how truly nasty Jessie acted toward Vicki. I could not decide if he was jealous because his brother didn’t want to share or because Joel was growing away from him.Yet I found myself intrigued by this darker side to Jessie, that is sure to bring an exciting story on down the road. After all, readers do love a bad boy.

I found this story emotionally heart wrenching. Trying to refrain from judging a book by it’s cover ? Far easier said than done. And I feel that the underlying lesson here is that even the best people sometimes judge without knowing the real person. The plot flew with an ease that kept me engaged in this story from start to finish. I could not put it down and read it in one sitting. I was totally entranced by the story and how things kept changing between Vicki and Joel. What started out as a few lessons in life turned into some lessons in love.

Rocky Mountain Rebel is book #5 in Vivian Arend’s ever popular Canadian cowboy series, Six Pack Ranch. Overflowing with angst, it is by far my favorite book in the series and I enjoyed every minute of it.  It is one read that you do not want to miss, and I happily recommend it to all contemporary romance readers.

This author must have known some feisty older folks. They are both skulking around in the evening because they aren’t ready to sleep yet. They are also being bad. Elsa moves water pitchers about; Mike does things like substitute sugar for salt. Once they find they are partners in crime, they begin to share time together and mutually play tricks on the staff.

Have you ever visited an assisted living unit? People there are mobile for the most part and just require minimal care. Some need help showering and dressing and pills are monitored, but they have a lot of freedom otherwise. The author does an excellent job of showing how focused people with limited activities and space can be after time. They often develop ideas that may not be true, but they believe it and refuse to change their minds. When Elsa and Mike start becoming a couple, George is extremely jealous. He had his eye on her. The war between the two old men over Elsa sounds very reasonable and real. They take turns dumping food and drink on each other; messing up each other’s room, etc. Elsa is at first excited about have two men fighting over her, but George begins to scare her.

The best part of the story for me was when Elsa finds out what her son and his wife have done to her.  Watch out! The old folks are going into action and they’re taking no prisoners.

This author has given you some elderly that can still command respect and have all their faculties together. Elsa comes into her own in this story and that alone made it worth reading. You won’t be bored. Why not see just how dangerous smart old people can be?

Ansgar is a medieval world with trains and guns from more modern times. King Eadric Garrard is the ruler but some of his lands have been taken by his ancestors by force and their people wish to separate from Ansgar. Eadric trusts no one. He’s convinced if he relaxes his guard someone will try to kill him. In direct contrast he also believes his people love him and are loyal to him, despite the fact he refuses to come to their aid when they need him.

The rebels’ chance comes when distant countries ask for Ansgar’s help and Eadric orders his nobles to call their troops to arms. The western Dukes and their followers call their levies but instead of marching to the King’s aid, they begin an attack on his armories and borders. Meanwhile the people of Kerberos also strike for independence.

The Cerberus Rebellion is set in a well thought out world and the characters are true to life. I did find so many characters quite confusing as it was difficult to keep them straight in my head. Also, it slowed the story down when the author told us in detail the color and type of clothing each character wore. This wasn’t really necessary and less detail shown as part of the story would have been better.

I enjoyed the progress of the story, particularly the introduction of the ancient members of the elf nations who acted as advisors to the humans. I really liked Raedan, Baron of Broken Plains and would read the sequel to find out what happens to him. His magical abilities brought life to his character as it gave an insight into this thoughts and actions.

The author has developed his idea of The Cerberus Rebellion well and this fantasy novel is definitely a good read for lovers of the genre.

In the future the Earth is in the midst of a civil war against the rich and the poor. People have escaped off to the Moon or the new colonies on Mars to get away from the fighting. On a cargo ship a group of misfits are trying to stay away from the war, but soon they are thrown back into it whether they like it or not.

Corey and Matt have struck out on their own in the space ship Marigold (love the name) and gathered around them several other unusual or some would say oddball characters. There’s a pilot from the moon, detectable by his burgundy eyes, a chubby chef married to a research scientist – also from the moon; a sharpshooter and a young boy who is an engineering genius. Corey is a computer genius while Matt is the Captain but while she knows all about Matt’s past, Corey keeps her personal history hidden.

The Marigold and her crew are on the side of the rebels who are at war with the GO (Galactic Order) of Earth. Their task is made harder by Captain Trefold of the Mars Patrol who is out to arrest them for any accusation he can make stick. Things get more complicated when Corey’s past catches up with her and someone in the crew becomes a traitor.

The characters in Space Rebels welcomed me into their world until I felt I was actually there with them, traveling through space, and trying to help them overcome their problems. Matt and Corey were a typical couple who could have had more than a close working friendship, but both were too scared to take the next step. The other crew members were unique but warm, loving characters. I really liked the ship’s name Marigold. Unpretentious, but a name which gave the vessel a personality.

This is a great book with well defined worlds and politics whose characters fit perfectly into the story. It’s obvious I enjoyed reading Space Rebels and although the book ended on a high, I really hope the author will write a sequel. Well done Ms Potts, lovely book.
