My favorite sorts of stories about animal companions are the ones that focus on the relationships between humans and their dogs, cats, birds, elephants, horses, ferrets, spiders, and other animals. There’s nothing like reading about cross-species relationships and how they can thrive!
1. Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron
2. That Quail, Robert by Margaret A. Stanger
3. Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl by Stacey O’Brien
4. The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony
5. King of the Wind: The Story of the Godolphin Arabian by Marguerite Henry
6. The Art of Racing in the Rain by Dave Manak
7. We Wish You A Ferret Christmas by Nikki Lynn Barrett
8. Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
9. My Life with Leopards by Fransje van Riel
10. The Gift From Little Raccoon: A Pandemic Tale by Carolyn Watson-Dubisch
Charlotte’s Web is one of my childhood favourites.
I can(t) believe there was a book about a quail in the 60s. But now I want to read it! Awesome list this week, thanks for coming over to mine too!
You’re welcome. Happy reading!
Same here!
I’ve read a couple of these. Great list!
Happy TTT!

Glad to hear it. Happy TTT!
I loved Charlotte’s Web as a child, but haven’t read any of the other books on your list.
Cool. I loved that book as a kid. 🙂
I forgot about Charlotte’s Web! I think at one time I owned a copy of that. 🙂 One I can save for the next animal themed book list. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my list.
You’re welcome. I really loved it growing up.
Great list! I wish I’d kept a better list of what books I read as a kid. I know I read several of Marguerite Henry’s books, but it’s been so long that I’m not positive now which ones I’ve read.
Thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier!
You’re welcome. I’m sure I’ve forgotten a lot of the books I read growing up, too.
That Quail, Robert! My parents read that aloud to us. I was maybe 4, but I remember it. I re-read it as an adult. It is so wonderful.
How wonderful. 🙂
Ooh nice! These are all totally new to me ones! Sounds like a nice variety though!
Thanks for visiting my TTT!
You’re welcome.
Oh I loved Charlotte’s Web 🕷️🕸️
Wasn’t it the best?
I have only read Charlotte’s Web, but I agree, there is something special about these kind of stories. Thanks for stopping by my blog this week.
You’re welcome. 🙂
Love Charlotte’s Web!
Such a classic!
One of these days I should read Dewey. 🙂
May you enjoy it!
We Wish You A Ferret Christmas has the BEST title! 😂
I know, right?
Have to investigate The Elephant Whisperer – elephants are my absolute favourite animals.
They are so intelligent!
These sound like heartwarming reads! The only one I’ve read is Charlotte’s Web.
Thank you. 🙂
Great list!I also am a fan of stories of cross-species friendships. I really want to read Dewey and Wesley the Owl also sounds intriguing. The only one I did read from your list is The Art of Racing in the rain but alas, it wasn’t for me. Thanks for visiting my blog earlier 🙂
You’re welcome and no worries! Hope you find other cross-species friendship books you do enjoy.
8 is so good! I also read 6 a long time ago, and have no memory of it!
It’s funny when that happens!
Great list! King of the Wind was one of my favorite books as a kid, and I loved so many of Marguerite Henry’s books. Thanks for the dose of nostalgia today!
You’re welcome. 🙂
Charlotte’s Web is a great choice for this week 🙂
Thank you. Such a classic.
