Author Interview and Giveaway: Lacey Silk

Long and Short Reviews welcomes  Lacey Silks whose debut erotic romance novel Dazzled by Silver released yesterday. To celebrate, she’s giving away five digital copies of the book–check out the Rafflecopter at the end of the post.

Under a different name, she’s written two novels and two novellas and, as Lacey Silks, she’s written eleven short stories. Her favorite story is “My First, My Last” which touches her like no other story does, because when she wrote it, she thought about her first. It also led to her best fan letter.

“A lady wrote to me, thanking me for writing ‘My First, My Last’ (which is a free story by the way),” she told me. “She said she re-lived her memories through the story and all of her emotions from when she lost her virginity were revived. After reading it, she regretted that her first was not her last. It was the most honest and touching fan email I’ve ever received. I’ve actually considered making the short story into a novel. Perhaps one day I will.”

Lacey is working on three separate novels and what she works on depends on who, that day, wants to tell their story.

The first novel she’s working on is the Layers Trilogy, and Lacey told me, “Three characters from Dazzled by Silver will lead this book. They’re secondary characters in Dazzled By Silver but they too have a very cool story. Allie, the main character is a strong woman both physically and emotionally, with an agenda of her own. Tristan Cross is scarred layers deep. His demons will keep appearing throughout the story. They will break each other ten times before they have their happy ending. (I always finish with a happy ending.)”

She recently started another book that doesn’t yet have a title; however, she said, “It’s all happening pretty quick. Once I thought about the story I knew exactly where to go with it. It’s always about the characters and if they want to talk, I have to write. I hope to finish it before end of July.”

The third book is about three-quarters done, but Lacey hasn’t been able to get back to it–it’s a dystopian, post-apocalyptic fantasy under a different name and she hopes to finish that one soon, because she loves the story.

“What is your most embarrassing moment?” I asked.

“I can’t believe I’m going to share this with the public. I’ll try to make it short. Here it goes: I was about twenty at the time and went shopping. It was summer time so I was looking for some dresses and capris. Found them. Went into the change room, put on the strapless dress. Since it had a sewn-in bra I had take mine off. The damn dressing room didn’t have a mirror inside. And that’s when my story turns embarrassing. I went out. Looked in the mirror. It fit perfectly. I was so happy I found the perfect dress. I went inside, took it off, put on my capris and went back out (Are you getting where I’m going with this yet?) I looked in the mirror again and the first thought was “Who is that topless girl?!”. Yes, I forgot to put on my top. My hands flew to my front covering my two gems and then I looked at the shocked sales lady in the mirror.
“Did I buy the dress? No.
“Did I run out of the store after changing? Heck yes!
“Did I ever go back to that mall? Nope, never again.”
One thing you might be surprised to learn about Lacey is that she was a movie extra when she was a teenager. She was able to meet Brendan Fraser, Ricki Lake, Matthew Broderick, and the late Marlon Brando.  In real life, she is extremely shy and, if she doesn’t know the crowd, she’ll be that quiet person in the corner listening to what other people say.

“Then I use what they say in some of my books. My friends found out about that the hard way,” she told me with a wink.

“When did you first consider yourself a writer?” I wondered.
It was a proud moment. I used to sell real estate and at one point I was sitting at my new hair dressers, I think this happened about three years ago, and she asked me  what I do. I said I’m a writer without hesitation. She looked at me funny and then I had to explain in more detail. It was one of the proudest moments of my life.”
The scariest moment of her life was that
moment her kids were born and she realized she’s responsible for another life.
“After that, it’s whenever I get on a plane. You don’t want to sit beside me on a plane – ever. I’m the one saying Hail Marys with a seat belt on the entire flight. I will not even go to the bathroom and I will cry on take-off and landing. The funny thing is that this fear developed after my kids were born.”
“If you were stranded on a desert island and were only allowed to have five modern conveniences with you,” I asked, “what would they be?”
“Alone, no man, can the batteries last forever? I’m assuming my hands would be too tired from the work I’d have to do to survive so:
1. A very good, long lasting, vibrating, back massager (hey, what were you thinking?).
2. My kindle with everlasting power. It would have to be full of books, too, as I’m assuming there’s no internet.
3. A bidet – this one’s self explanatory. If you’ve never used one, do so and you’ll know what I mean. I love my bidet as much as my shower. And it could be used as a source of water too!
4. TV with Netflix and all the shows I love to watch (Gray’s Anatomy, Survivor, Game of Thrones, True Blood, Vampire Diaries etc…)
5. A plane full of fuel so that if I got bored I could fly back to civilization (yes, we’re assuming here I can fly, which I can’t, so perhaps a speed boat would be easier).”
Finally, I asked, “What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?”
“Simply start writing. Write a lot, read a lot and your writing and story telling will improve with each story/novel. Don’t expect the first one to be a best-seller. Don’t expect the tenth one to be either. Sometimes it takes a bit of luck and other times, a lot more luck. And sometimes, when you have that little luck, your first can hit that special spot in someone’s heart and fly on its own right away. Still, keep writing.”
