Zoraida Grey and Cancer the Crab

I’m celebrating a book release!!! Zoraida Grey and the Voodoo Queen is the second book in a Gothic fantasy trilogy I’ve been working on for a couple of years. Not only that, but the last book in the trilogy is almost ready to send to the editor which means the entire series will be out of my hands soon. Getting this series finished is a big deal for me and I’ve decided to spend the rest of 2018 in party mode—well, except for the time I’ll be working on the next book but we don’t need to let that spoil a good celebration.

Zoraida Grey is a small-town fortune teller who has a nice, comfortable life in a quiet, out-of-the-way place in Arkansas. She runs a little natural food shop where she dispenses yogurt, healthy snacks, and a little weed. She’s not looking to make any changes. But her witchy Granny has other plans.

Tarot cards and astrology are second nature to Zoraida and I thought it would be fun to talk about astrology and how the signs of the Zodiac relate to some of the characters in the series. Visit my Witchmageddon page on my website to see what signs and cards relate to other characters in the series.

Zoraida was born under the sign of Cancer the Crab. She’s protective, nurturing, and a little unhinged.

Cancers are guided by the Moon and can be moody and changeable. They often develop a crustacean-like shell to protect themselves. It’s hard to get to know a Cancer when she’s got her defenses built. They tend to be tenacious, protecting friends and family—no matter what!! If you are in their clan, they’ll support you with ferocity. If you threaten their clan—well, let’s just say that’s a bad idea. They can be brutal if needs be. They will do whatever it takes!

Kathy Bates is a Cancer—maybe that’s why she was so convincing in Misery. Meryl Streep, Helen Keller, and Liv Tyler are Cancers. So is Malala Yousafzai. So was Princess Diana. Angela Merkel, The 14th Dalai Lama, and Nelson Mandela must epitomize the best of the sign. But Cancers also include Lizzie Bordon (who may or may not be guilty of axe-related mayhem), Machine Gun Kelly, and John Dillinger—along with O.J. Simpson and Bill Cosby.

By some accounts, Cancers are arrested for criminal behavior more than any other sign. Cancers tend to be jealous, so this story goes, and commit crimes of passion. Supposedly, the FBI did a study—but I can’t find any corroboration for that claim. If they haven’t, they certainly need to. If someone you know is a Cancer, you have been warned. If, dear reader, you happen to be a Cancer. . . Let’s hear what you think –and I ask in the most respectful manner possible.

PSST—as part of the book launch party, I’m giving away a beautiful, hand-crafted tree of life birthstone pendant—and a bunch of books. Enter the giveaway below or on my website.

Magic may save Zoraida’s skin, but what about her heart?

Zoraida Grey needs help. With the witchy Logan clan holding her best friend hostage in a haunted Scottish castle, she can’t trust anyone—certainly not beguiling but dangerous Shea Logan. And Al, her overprotective boyfriend, doesn’t believe in magic.

Only one creature strikes fear in the blackened hearts of the Logan witches. Trouble is Jock disappeared five centuries ago leaving a trail of destruction across the Gulf of Mexico. Now he’s stepped into a steaming pile of Voodoo.

Can Zoraida drag wayward Jock back to Scotland? And what’s she supposed to do with two men who promise completely different futures?

A Scottish wizard, stripped naked and painted blue—a Voodoo priestess bent on immortality—a yacht-load of Caribbean pirates. What can possibly go wrong?
