Santa Clause

Since I’m pretty sure that no one young enough to still believe in Santa Clause would read this post I thought I’d be safe with the topic. I remember when my daughter first asked me if there was a Santa Clause, and I’d replied by asking her if she believed in him. When she’d answered yes, I told her that was all that mattered. I knew that eventually she’d find out; though I hadn’t counted on her very own aunt telling her there was no Santa while she was only in first grade.

Well, now her daughter knows there’s no Santa Clause and that mommy and daddy are the ones who buy all those gifts. Funny, but my daughter and I were just talking about it the other day. Alivia is ten and I asked Michelle if she thought it was funny that Alivia still believed in Santa. Low and behold a week later Alivia comes home from school and asks her mom about it. Apparently one of her friends told her there was no Santa. Michelle told Alivia the truth, but asked her not to tell her five-year-old brother. Yeah, we’ll see how long that lasts.

The news that there was no Santa Clause hit Alivia hard. After all she’d firmly believed in him, and the traditions around him. I mean, Ernie the Elf visits us every year right after Thanksgiving. I’m sure her little mind is thinking about the tooth fairy and Easter bunny, too. It was time for her to learn the truth, but a sad time, too. A little of her innocence is gone now.

However, she didn’t miss an opportunity the other day when she told her mom that she wants a hoverboard. Michelle said there was no way she was going to buy her a $300 hoverboard for Christmas so Alivia said, “Fine, I’ll just ask Santa.” Lol

I hope that all of you who celebrate Christmas have a wonderful and safe holiday! Thanks for letting me visit with you today. I hope that you’ll take a moment to check out my next big release, which comes out the end of this month. Pre-order is available at Amazon.

  1. That story made me chuckle. I had a friend who believed in Santa until she was a little older than Alivia. She was very sad when she figured out the truth.

It’s interesting to see how different kids react to these things. 🙂

    • Yeah, and later she did confront her mother about the Easter bunny and tooth fairy. She recently lost a tooth at school and had the nerve to text her mom to let the tooth fairy know. I swear kids don’t let you get away with nothing anymore!

Thanks for stopping by Astilbe. Have a Merry Christmas!

  2. Great story. When kids find out, their reactions can be surprising or sad.

  3. Mine were all philosophical about finding out. I did the same thing asking them not to tell their younger sisters and they did.

    • We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Mason doesn’t find out. Those two get along great but they have their moments and I can just hear Alivia shouting out there’s no Santa Clause during one of their fights.

Have a Merry Christmas Debra, thanks for coming by today.

  4. I enjoyed reading this. Children’s reactions can be surprising and/or sad when they find out.

  5. Thanks for the cute story. My son just figured out about Santa earlier this week. (He is 9.) He asked his dad if Santa actually put the gifts under the tree or if mom & dad did. Dad said, “What do you think?” My son said, “I think you and mom do it.” My son seemed a little sad for a while, but was over it quickly.

    • Yeah, it’s tough when they learn the truth. Alivia was sad for about a week. Sounds like your son might have suspected the truth for him to suggest that you and his dad put the gifts under the tree.

Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment. Merry Christmas!

  6. My son swore that when he had a child he wouldn’t tell the “Santa lie”. Ha. How kids change you. My 3 year old granddaughter decided there was a Santa and my son was forced to go along with it. And he’s having fun! Your latest “smut” sounds like a good read, Tori.

    • lol, my latest smut, gave me a chuckle. Won’t we do anything for our kids? I bet your granddaughter has her daddy wrapped around her little finger. So much for his not telling the Santa lie!

      Merry Christmas!

  7. When my kids were little I would wrap presents in different wrapping paper and put the sack on the back patio. They were the presents Santa left. The presents from my husband and I were under the tree. It was fun when they thought they heard a noise outside and saw the big sack of gifts. Their reaction was priceless.

    • What a good idea! My daughter and son-in-law sprayed snow all around their fire-place and then he walked through it to the tree so that it appeared Santa had come down the chimney. The kids fell for it!

Have a Merry Christmas Rita! Thanks for coming by today.

  8. Enjoyed reading your post, it is interesting the reaction of children regarding Santa.

  9. Cool read.

  10. Thanks Kim! Merry Christmas!

  11. For one thing the book sounds great, which i am definitely going to read, next thing is this winter blog fest is very sad since our country is in the tropics…

So NO SNOW! only rain and sunshine. 🙁

Otherwise i usually like reading about these kinds of tradition. These traditions has been dying down, with less and less young generations participating in my country at least, It is nice to hear that does not happening there. 😀

    • Hi Salisa!

I live in Florida so understand about tropical climate. We don’t have the seasons here, no snow, very few cooler days we can enjoy and get into the spirit with. Right now it looks like Christmas Day will be in the eighties. But we make the most of it and like most holidays it’s getting together with family and friends that really matter.

Unfortunately you’re correct about traditions dying down. I believe it’s up to the families to pass them on when they can. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and that you enjoy reading No Mercy. I’m already in the process of writing Big John’s story, you’ll understand who he is when you read the book:)

  12. Happy Holidays to you and thanks for sharing about your daughter.

Ahh yes I remember that momrnt as a kid when all your beliefs get blown up & it feels like the rug got pulled out from under you & sent you spinning like a top!?? I was a little younger almost 8yrs old so I think I took it a little harder than most… My son was around 11 when he came to me & told me “Mom, I know that Santa isn’t real, so you don’t have to write from Santa on half my Xmas presents. I know their all from you.” … I was kinda speachless & finally asked him Who told you Santa isnt real? He says “well everybody but I figured it out on my own last year” I asked him to explain & he said….”I did an experiment… You know how I write a letter to Santa every year & we drop it off at the post office? Well last year I pretended to write a letter & sent a blank piece of paper, & I only told YOU what I wanted for Xmas. And I got what I asked for & only you knew what I wanted. So ypu dont have to pretend for me anymore, Oh & Ive also known ypu where the fairy since I was 8 cuz I saw you put the money under my pillow!”…. I was utterly flabbergasted to say the least!!??And so my stubborn ass side flaired up & all I could say was ” I don’t know what your talking about Santa is real & so is the Tooth Fairy… I was just filling in for the Tooth Fairy that time she called out sick”??? My son just gave me that blank stare like “Really?!” lmfao… I put From Santa on half his presents a few weeks later & that lil shit of mine as he opened each of “Santa’s” gifts sarcastically looked at me & said “Thank’s Santa!”???? At that point I admitted defeat & gave up! ?? I was more determined to hang on to his Whimsical Innocence than he was!!???
    ?Xoxo?

    • Too funny! That was pretty tricky of him. I think sometimes that we’re just as crushed when they finally figure it out. I hope you had a nice Christmas. Thanks for stopping in and leaving a comment. Happy New Year’s!
