My Perfect Writing Place by Mary Alice Pritchard

If I could have any place I wanted to write, I would write in the Smokey Mountains in a cabin with a large office that had shelves of books surrounding three walls and a nice window on the last wall where I can look out at nature when I wanted to. I’d have a large desk with my three monitor screens that let me have character notes on one screen and a dictionary or thesaurus on the other screen while I write on the center screen.

I’d have a separate standing bulletin board where that I could post plot points and pictures of what my characters look like to me. There would be a small fridge full of Diet cokes and water and maybe a bottle of wine for those really hard parts in a book. There’d be a cat stand next to the window for the feline muse and a bed on one of the shelves for her.

I’d have a comfortable club chair or recliner fit for my short body in the corner between two bookshelves for when I just need to sit and read or listen to a book through my Alexa.

There’d be a bathroom off my office so that I wouldn’t have to leave the writing cave and break my train of thought by walking out of the atmosphere that keeps me in the groove, mood, or whatever you want to call it. If I’m writing late, I could take a shower in the stone and glass shower stall and pull on my sleep shirt and write till dawn.

Right outside my window would be bird feeders so that I could watch them and I’d feed deer closer to the tree line so that sometimes I’d catch a glimpse of the elusive creatures. I love nature and seeing it just outside my office window would help me relax and let the words flow.

That’s my vision of the perfect office for me. I have a separate space available to me but it isn’t in the Smokey Mountains and there isn’t a lot of wild life around it. I just need to remodel it and set it up to have a partial favorite place to write. Maybe next year I’ll get around to that.

Morgan Henry: Morgan was able to realize a long unfulfilled dream when Siren accepted her manuscript for publication. Though she had always loved reading and writing, she made the decision to pursue a career in science when she was still in high school. It was a choice based in a need for stability and financial security.

It wasn’t until much later in life that she returned to her love of writing. Morgan wrote a manuscript, deciding that it was better to try and fail than to always wonder if she could have been a writer. She was amazed and delighted to have her first book published.

She now resides in Ontario, with her loving and supportive husband, cat and Boston terrorizer, oops I mean terrier. When she’s not writing, she still has a full time “day job” that she loves, family to look after, friends to enjoy spending time with, and quilts to make.
