My Ideal Summer Vacation

My ideal summer vacation… I’m thinking a tropical beach locale. Palm fronds rustling in the warm breeze. And just across this pristine sparkling blue, bandaid-free pool there’s a group of firemen in their twenties trying to see who can do the most push-ups. They’re ridiculously competitive, incredibly hot, and even though we keep telling them we’re married and have families at home… they won’t stop flirting with me and my best writing buddies.

*Sound of needle scratching across beach background noise record*

Wait, what? OOOoooohh you thought I was bringing my family?

Yeah… No.

Okay, okay, just settle down. *Self-consciously adjusts the SUPER MOM unitard*

Look, here’s the deal. I LOVE my family. Love spending time with them. And any other year, they would be the ones topping my list to travel with… but THIS year?

*Sigh*

This year we have a four month summer break to accommodate the renovations to our high school. The kids are super excited. I’m super excited, but also a little afraid. Because… well, we have four amazingly awesome kids. They are 15, 14, 12 and 12. Their favorite pastimes include Nerf wars, enjoying the freedoms afforded by my office having no doors, Zombie Apocalypse prep, looking for better snacks than we have, needing rides (often to the same place, but never at the same time), wrestling on the stairs outside my office door… okay, I think you might have the idea. But just to break it down…
4 months + 4 non-driving kids + 0 doors on my office + mommy is a full time writer = OMG FOUR MONTHS!!!!????!!!?

*clears throat and eyes wine*

It’s going to be fine, lol.

But back to my fantasy vacation from summer vacation… As I mentioned, there were flirtatious firemen and those shaded little cabana huts with the sheers that billow in the breeze and enough outlets to accommodate our laptops and assorted devices. The light will be perfect, so there is no glare on my screen and somehow amid the bottomless daiquiris and endless giggles…I am incredibly productive and manage to write the first draft of my next book (which is flipping awesome so I’m guaranteed light edits and great reviews) in the week we are there. And then when I get home, I’ve got all the time to enjoy all the kiddies and all the crazy that is my real life summer vacation 🙂

Don’t worry… I’ll get the next book done even without the firemen and fantabulous escape, lol. The house might just come down around me while I do, lol!

Sarah’s to-do list:
Mani-pedi
Buy killer black dress
Lose virginity

When Sarah Cole has two months to kill before her big move to New York, she decides it’s time to take care of a few things―like the inconvenient issue of her virginity. Sarah knows the right guy for the job too: Max, the notorious lady’s man she’s been crushing on since college.

Two weeks of courting, and then the deed will be done. The plan is so simple. There’s no way either of them would do something as silly as fall in love…
