Summer Fun

I have to be honest, summer is not my favorite time of year, but I know a lot of people, especially here in Florida, love the summer, and the summer heat. They enjoy spending time at the beach, basking in hundred degree temperatures while the sun slowly cooks them from the outside in.

My daughter and her family will make several trips to the beach during the summer. They’ll pack a picnic lunch, lots of drinks, and frozen wash clothes. Of course the kids have the typical beach toys to play with as neither one will go into the water. The blanket my daughter packs to sit on is a beautiful handmade quilt my mom made years ago. I believe the only reason it hasn’t been borrowed is because one of them is always around or on it. I keep waiting for the day when she comes home to say their beach blanket has disappeared.

I actually love the beach, but from inside an air conditioned room facing the beautiful view of the ocean, or sitting on a balcony, there’s usually a breeze. I even like walking along the beach, in early morning or right before dark. Once we rented a four wheeler and rode up and down the beach along the edge of the water. I like picking up shells, and getting my feet wet. The sand and salt water is actually very good for your feet.

Remember back in the day when you were allowed to park on all the beaches? Wasn’t easy finding a parking place, was it. I can recall many times when my parents had to squeeze in between two vehicles. A simpler time before there was a law or regulation for everything. In those days everyone went into the water and jumped the waves. We didn’t just sun bathe. When you live in Florida during the summer anything you do that involves getting wet is good.

Summer fun seems to happen out of doors. Bike riding, hiking, swimming, going on fun vacations because the weather is usually good, horseback riding, fishing, family reunions. There’s a lot you can do for summer fun. It’s not all about the beach. When I was a kid summer fun for me was being out of school, and going to the lake with friends and on family vacations like Six Flags over Georgia, Lion Country Safari and Weeki Wachee Springs.

There is one summer fun activity I can think of doing when you’re stuck inside because of the weather or something else beyond your control. Reading! You can go on an exotic vacation in a book. Get lost in a Paris romance, or the arms of an Alaskan looking for a bride…in Alaska of course. Your reading choices are endless!

What’s your favorite summer fun memory? Everyone who leaves an answer with your email addy will be entered for a chance at a free download of Kiss Me! A full-length contemporary romance originally released at Whiskey Creek Press as Cupid’s Arrow, and on their best sellers list for two months.

I recently published my first series, Serve and Submit. Five short, erotic, stand alone stories where each hero serves the public in some way. Meet a cop in Pulled Over, fireman in On Fire, undercover agent in Under Cover, Marine in Party Time and a Navy SEAL in Lovers. All are available at Amazon and Smashwords and you can read them in any order.
