F*ck Normal

Ah, summer. Sun’s out, days are long and warm, the city is emptied out. You can get seated at the best table without waiting. No line at the café either. Only the drive to the beach is crowded.
Sure seems like the perfect time to say, “Never mind what everyone else is doing. I’m going to…”

1. Put away my list of books to read and dive into the books I really want to read.
2. Reread The Story of O, the daring precursor to Fifty Shades (but published way back in 1969)
3. Swim naked.
4. Sleep naked.
5. Do everything (except go to work) naked.
6. Play hooky from work.
7. Find someone new (and hot) to stalk online.
8. Drink fruit-flavored beer.
9. Drink hard cider.
10. Grow out my hair. Not shave my legs. No makeup. None.
11. Be the kind of effortless woman who devastates men.
12. Write a fantasy in my journal about that.
13. Turn the fantasy into reality—in the form of a story or book.

Summer is the perfect time to write that first novel. Or novella. Or short story. You have so much more daylight to work in. You have days, maybe weeks without that much to do. Who cares about dust, nutrition, income and tan lines when you can go deep into your own dreams and pull out an engaging tale? Type it up. Edit it until it shines like a polished gem. A gem you mined from your own life. Your own heart. And soul.

When I’m not writing stories myself, I work with new writers to help them do their mining. And polishing. It’s hard work but it’s so much fun. And it’s always so rewarding.

And summer is the perfect time to get to it. You’ve always wanted to. So why not now? F*ck all the other stuff—go write.

Make you own list of how you are going to go deviant this summer. Just make sure writing about your secret fantasy is on your list.

F*ck normal. Know this: writing will give you everything society denies you.

Happy summer!

mickey F_ck_Normal_med (2)Barton and Katelyn Fiske are a normal couple with some all too normal marital issues. Katelyn wants her husband to stop fantasizing about a woman from his past. Barton wants his wife to stop prying into his private thoughts. Dr. Colony, their high-end Palm Beach therapist, wants husband and wife to enjoy a normal relationship.

Fuck normal, Barton thinks.

As it turns out, Katelyn is thinking the same thing.

F*ck Normal is a zany romp through a day in the life of a not so normal married couple. A fun, funny, crazy look at what it takes to let go of love, and why you might just want to grab on again.

About the Author: Mickey J. Corrigan lives and writes and gets into trouble in South Florida. She publishes with pulpy presses with names like Breathless, Champagne and Wild Rose.
