It’s one of those anomalies impossible to explain. I think of myself as a practical, realistic person—often the one who tries to bring reason and logic to bear on problems, or talk others out of going off on a tangent. “Just the facts, ma’am,” could be my life’s bi-line. Most of my friends know, as sympathetic and supportive as I am, don’t come to me if you don’t want the spotlight of realism shone on your problems.

And yet…

I ask myself the weirdest questions, and in all seriousness too. Like, “If humans didn’t exist at the time dinosaurs went extinct, how come so many cultures have dragons in their folklore?” Or, “Where did the gods go when they stopped showing themselves to men?” Stuff like that.

Because as practical as I am, as rooted in reality I try to be, there is a part of me that still believes in fairies, that listens for the whisper of that other world just beyond the horizon. I look for observers hidden in the clouds, find it easy to believe that man who came into the store without the bell going off could be a being from somewhere else.

It’s a good thing, I think. For without this anomaly in my character, the ability and need to believe in things I’ve been taught don’t exist, I couldn’t be an author. I get to hide the dreamer beneath that practical exterior. While dispensing rational opinion on one hand my brain might be considering what would happen if all the mythological creatures and gods retreated to a parallel world when men no longer believed in them. What kind of mischief might they all get up to?

If you’d like to know the answer to that question, I hope you’ll check out Fleeing Fate and Stone-Hand Passion, part of Ellora’s Cave’s Pricked tattoo themed series, all available for pre-order and coming in July 2012!

Jakuta Dagbo knows bad weather’s approaching, even though the sky above the faie world is clear. And when Gràinne Bairdie walks into The Midnight Café wanting an arcane tattoo, he realizes the tempest raging into his life has nothing to do with wind and rain. Just one look at her brings his storm god libido, and the protective instincts he no longer trusts, to thundering life.

Gràinne’s a banshee on the run, desperate to claim the emotions she’s sure are rightfully hers, and has no time to explore the sparks of need flying between herself and Jakuta. What she’s trying to do will bring the wrath of the Banshee Council down on her head, and she knows they’ll do anything to stop her. Yet, as Gràinne and Jakuta peel back the layers of their lives, searching for the answers she needs, they can’t ignore the lightning-hot passion searing their blood. And when emotion reaches its apex, demanding complete surrender to the cyclone of desire, neither can resist. Even if it means Gràinne’s banshee wail of release will be her last.
