Drawn together by their love of animals, Aria DeLuca and Caleb Hawkins burn for each other. They never suspected that malignant forces were successfully plotting Caleb’s ruin from the moment he entered her life.

When the flood of a century strikes Aria’s hometown, an alienated Caleb is all that stands between her and catastrophic loss.

“You shouldn’t have helped this man, Aria. He isn’t our kind, and he never will be.”

Anger shot through Aria and demanded expression. “Daddy! What’s the matter with you? I never thought you’d act this way. Everyone deserves a second chance.”

Her father sat up straight. His eyes bored into hers. “I’ve seen a lot during my time as a lawyer, things I’m proud to say you haven’t seen, and I never want you to. People like Caleb ruin everything they touch. Once a criminal, always a criminal in my book. You’d be shocked if you knew how many repeat offenders I’ve dealt with in my career.”

“Maybe they’re repeat offenders because no one would give them a chance!” Oops, she had raised her voice without meaning to.

“And maybe they’re repeat offenders because they’d bad people,” her father coolly returned.
