Eight things I love about the characters in ‘Release’

One of the really fun things about Release, my collection of paranormal erotic novellas, is that I had to come up with a range of different characters. In Release, there are four spirits who have been sentenced to a grey nothingness until they can atone for their sins. After centuries, they’ve worked out that the way to make up for their wrongs is to make women feel very, very right.

Each of the four spirits needed a backstory and character. Each of them needed a lady to seduce (or be seduced by). Each of them has something about them that I love, and I’m going to share those things with you.

1) The spirit of the house – the original and the best. It was he that began the whole idea of the four spirits, struggling to make up for the wrong they perpetrated during their lives. It is the spirit of the house that discovers the key to escaping their grey prison is to give what they had once taken – sexual delight. He decides to be gentlemanly about it, but still he steams up the house with Luisa.

2) Luisa – Luisa is a strong woman, determined that she’s going to live her life the way she wants it, not how she’s told it should be. She changes everything – her job, her style, her friendship group. When she buys the house, there’s just one thing left on her list – to fulfil her own sexuality and experience pleasure by her own rules. And man – does the spirit of the house provide!

3) The spirit of the beach – living in Australia, there was no way I wasn’t going to have the beach involved. The spirit of the beach is free, fun, warm and sunny – just like a great day at the beach should be. And when he comes with a desire to make you feel better than you’ve ever felt before, how can you say no?

4) Anna – Anna is mourning the loss of her husband, and has put her life on hold while she deals with that pain. But shutting herself away isn’t what her husband wanted for her, and the spirit of the beach is going to show Anna that the best way of honouring her husband is to be the woman he loved – sexy, playful, adventurous. That Anna embraces the journey with such enthusiasm and bravery is something I really respect.

5) The spirit of the field – Well, I find it hard to resist a man in jeans and a shirt, dusty and just a little bit sweaty – and that’s what this spirit is. He’s even harder to resist when you realise he’s a sweetie, and he wants to make your deepest desires come true – whatever it takes.

6) Cara – While she’s not one hundred percent sure she’s going to pull it off, Cara’s determination to show her ex-boyfriend that she isn’t the loser he told her she was is admirable. Thankfully, the spirit of the field arrives in time to convince Cara that she’s got everything it takes to make her ex regret leaving her – and he’s going to make her most secret fantasy come true too!

7) The spirit of the office – This spirit is stunning, and arrogantly aware of it – at least he was, until centuries in a type of prison showed how wrong he was. Now he’s scared of the power he can wield but if he doesn’t snap out of it, none of the spirits will be released. I love how he allows himself to be vulnerable with Jan and through that, achieves his salvation.

8) Jan – Jan is confident, determined, ambitious – the less kind amongst us would say she’s a real ball-buster. But when she meets the spirit of the office, she can’t allow him to continue to suffer and thankfully, her decision results in great delight for them both.

I had such fun writing the four stories of Release – put together, they create one of the most emotional and honest books I’ve written. I really hope you enjoy them too.

Cursed after death to live in grey nothingness until they atone for their sins, four spirits have spent centuries doing good for others. Finally they stumble upon the true key to their salvation — because they hurt women in their lives, they’ll only find release by now helping women to become all they should be.

One by one, the spirits meet a woman and as each sexual delight unfurls, the grey nothingness disappears a little more. As the women find their happily ever after, they grant the spirits a chance at peace for eternity.

Follow the journey of four remarkable women — Luisa, Anna, Cara, and Jan — and the four spirits that set them on a new path to sexual freedom and boundless pleasure.
