Beautiful Crazy by Kasey Lane – Q&A and Giveaway

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Kasey Lane, who is celebrating the release of her latest book Beautiful Crazy. Leave a comment or ask the author a question for a chance to win a copy of the book (US/Canada only).

What is your favorite non-writing pastime?

I’m a voracious reader. Reading romance is both my research and mediation. I work and write so much that I really value my family time. My kids are teens (one in college and the other in middle school) so I really value any time they want to spend with me or my husband. Recently I’ve started hiking (or walking up small inclines very slowly) with my family and sometimes friends. I suck at it, but the area we live in is so beautiful I’m trying to stick with it.

When did you decide to take that step that made you a published author?

I’ve always wanted to write romance, but never did much more than talk about it. My husband finally got sick of me saying “I should write a book.” When NaNoWriMo rolled around in 2013 he said I should stop whining about wanting to write and just do it. So I did. An early version of Beautiful Crazy led to a few offers from small publishers and an offer of representation from my agent, Cate Hart. Cate helped me polish the manuscript and then we sent it out to Cat at Sourcebooks. She asked for some more tweaking and then offered me a contract for the Rock ‘n’ Ink series.

What has been your greatest challenge as a writer? Have you been able to overcome it?

Crushing self-doubt. I still struggle with it, but I have learned to push through and just keep writing. Having other writer friends is extremely helpful. Sometimes they’re super supportive and compassionate. Other times it’s pretty much “suck it up, buttercup.”

Also, starting a new career in my 40s has been challenging, but in a good way. I’ve been doing my day job for almost two decades so I’m pretty confident in that area. But writing and the publishing industry are still so new to me that I sometimes feel a little lost. I love it though.

Is writing a full-time career for you? If not, how else do you spend your work day?

I hope I’ll be able to write full time within 5 years. Until then I write whenever I have more than 10 minutes to myself, but mostly I write at lunch, at night, and on the weekends. By day I’m a marketing director for a hardware company that I helped found.

He’s a sexy suit who gets what he wants

Kevan Landry is trying to keep her life on track and her brother in rehab. If her fledgling marketing firm can sign the hot new band, Manix Curse, it will make a world of difference. Mason Dillon heads the most successful music PR firm in Portland. He’s desperate to breathe new life into the company by signing Manix Curse.

The last thing either one needs is a one-night stand with a smoldering stranger…

The stakes are high when a battle for the band—in the bedroom and the boardroom—becomes a battle of the heart. But if these two can set aside their differences, they may find they’re the right mix of sexy savvy to conquer both their worlds.

  1. Wonderful post. What is the strangest thing you have done for research?

    • Thank you! I love music, but I’m a little over the super hard stuff. However I did go to a death metal concert with my son a few years ago (Black Dahlia Murder and Dethklok). Ugh…it was brutal.

  2. this looks and sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing 🙂 what do you have to do or have while writing?

    • Thanks! I hope you love Kevan and Mason as much as I do!

I always have my headphones to block out the chaos around me (aka the teens and the husband), tea or water, and my little writing buddies (2 dopey papillons – Jack and Zakk). Most importantly, I need my stack of thesauri (thesauruses?).

  3. Beautiful Crazy sounds fantastic. Can’t wait to read it. If we looked on your nightstand, what books would we find there?

  4. I love the cover of Beautiful Crazy! Is it how you pictured your characters when you were writing?

    • Hi Nikki! The models on the cover are EXACTLY like Kevan and Mason. When I first saw the cover I was blown away…it’s like they brought my characters to life!

  5. Where is your favorite place to be when you are writing?

  6. Thank you, Joanne! I’m on deadline right now for book 3 in the Rock ‘n’ Ink series so I have a bunch of books stacked up and waiting to be read. I can’t wait to dive into Tough Luck Hero by Maisey Yates, True Blue Cowboy Christmas by Nicole Helm, The Sexy One by Lauren Blakey, Viking Warrior Rebel by Asa Marie Bradley, Edge of Control by Megan Crane (I just finished this amazing book and am eagerly awaiting the next one), and Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas.

  7. Keep writing! It’s a great book. 🙂 (Don’t enter me in the giveaway, as I was fortunate enough to read this already.)

  8. Sounds awesome!
