What are your favorites genres to read in and why?

It’s a tie between science fiction and young adult.

I love the optimism and playfulness that’s often found in young adult books. This genre isn’t afraid to take risks and try new ways of storytelling, and I respect that.

I watched a lot of Star Trek: The Next Generation reruns growing up. That introduction to the science fiction genre made a big impression on my little mind. I was mesmerized by all of the different worlds Captain Picard discovered along the way.

Do you have any “bad book habits”? Dog Ear? Reading in the tub or while eating? Breaking the spine?

I often snack while reading. Some of my books have mysterious food stains because I didn’t wipe my fingers off before turning to the next page.

It’s hard to take a break and wash your hands properly when something really exciting is happening in the plot!

What is one thing we would be most surprised to learn about you?

I’m a dual citizen.

I was born in a small town in the United States. As an adult I immigrated to Canada, and I became a citizen here four years ago.

I feel incredibly lucky to have two countries to call home now.

What is something that makes you stop reading a book?

The use of offensive stereotypes. It’s perfectly possible to have stock characters without insulting entire groups of people.

Describe your perfect reading space.

A very quiet room with a roaring fireplace.
I’d sit on an overstuffed sofa and sip a glass of rice milk as I read.
I’d also smuggle in a few chocolate chip cookies and nibble on them during the most exciting chapters.

Fireplace??? I live in a tropical climate so no fireplace. No need for one. I just have to go out if i want hot!! :p

  2. Reading by the fireplace sounds so cozy!!

  3. Barbara Elness says:

For shame, staining your books with food. I read while I’m eating all the time, especially lunch. But I have a napkin to wipe my hands off. 😀

  4. Your perfect reading space sounds wonderful! And I understand about the food smudges. I read most of my books on my Kindle, and I have to clean mysterious smudges off the screen. 🙂

  5. Glad to know I am not the only snack reader. I have the bad habit of late night reading and late night snacking. They kind of go hand-in-hand for me.

  6. Another ST:TNG lover! Awesome! It’s currently on reruns here, so naturally I’m watching them again–even though I probably know most of them by heart 😀
