Graphic designer Lynda Shelton has agreed to marry Mergers and Acquisitions legend Merrick Dalton for one reason only. To save her family’s company. She’s warned this is a marriage in name only. Merrick will never love her. That’s fine with Lynda because she has sworn off men.

Merrick Dalton has wanted Shelton Energy for a long time, so when he’s asked to save the company, he jumps at the chance. He has vowed never to love another woman, but Merrick can give Lynda what he’s been assured she wants. Material comfort and social standing.

Unyielding by Ravenna Tate hooked and intrigued me from the start. Two people standing at the altar that did not want to get married: why?

Sadly, though Ms. Tate’s writing is excellent and I could easily immerse myself in the story, the book is riddled with distracting editing errors that interrupted the flow.

Furthermore, Unyielding is marketed as Dark Romance, but I really didn’t think it fit the bill. Sure, the hero, Merrick, had a few secrets, but I found him mild compared to other books. However, his overall sexiness and personality (demanding, yet caring, stands up for his wife, etc. ), made me fall for him. He’s well portrayed and his reasons for doing things the way he does makes sense.

As for the heroine, Lynda, I struggled with her actions. At times, she appeared to be weak, like a maiden in distress that needed saving. This contradicted what Ms. Tate was trying to portray: a strong independent woman that had gotten over her traumas, and set up her own successful business, etc. Not to mention, I had a hard time coping with her decision to help her family after all they’d done to her. Perhaps, a little more insight into her would have helped me understand her motivations.

Nonetheless, Unyielding was an entertaining and hot book. The sex was well described and sizzling. I particularly loved the spanking scene between the characters. Having the heroine cry as a result, instead of simply achieving a magical subspace, made it very real for me.

In conclusion, Unyielding by Ravenna Tate was an entertaining read. I’ll be looking for the next book in her Tortured Love series.
