Ms. Fresina has created an amazing array of fascinating and lively characters that tickle the funny bone. The hero, James, is a man slow on the uptake as to what Ellie, the heroine, is really up to. Once he figures it out, the game is afoot and his pursuit of Ellie turns quite serious indeed.

Ellie, on the other hand, thinks she’s clever at outwitting everyone, especially the males of the ton. Her character is fun, irreverent, imaginative, and spunky and has a very long memory of past slights. Her motivation is a bit suspect as I don’t think she ever fell out of love with the handsome James. The drama and suspense comes from the heroine finding out that her clever ploy and secret life wasn’t so clever or secret after all. In fact, what came to light was so totally unexpected and astonishing, I was left gaping like a fish.

Thank goodness James wasn’t a shallow or unforgiving man. He had a huge decision to make – does he stand by Ellie or let the revelation ruin both their futures. I’m glad to say that James made an excellent hero, faults, silly nicknames and all.

What I liked the most was watching James and Ellie discover each other as they learned what made them the people they were. The hottest part was when they embarked on the physical exploration of their budding love. It was at times tender, sometimes bordering on silly and ended up being some of the most adventurous moments in the book. The sensuous nature of their courtship was fully explored but whenever I got to the part where James said, “Are you ready for your first servicing?” I just about melted on the spot. What came after that sentence made me blush and grin at the same time. Those scenes were well written, delightful and entertaining. Ms. Fresina has a great imagination and it shows with the full-bodied writing found within this novel’s pages.

Wait until readers get their first introduction to Lady Mercy. I think she’s a book in the making. Then there are secondary characters like Mrs. Flick that certainly stirred the conflict but no one comes close to making the conflict explode like James’ grandmother. What a harridan! But nothing can top the emotional plot twist of the surprise he had for the old woman. If she thought that his intention of marrying Ellie was bad, his secret was even more profound.

Gratefully, all the conflict threads are tied together in one big sparkly naughty bow and Ms. Fresina provided a happy ever after like no other. It was just as scandalous, daring and bold as their entire courtship was. If a reader is looking for a sexy courtship, a saucy heroine being courted by a very determined hero hampered by so many mix-ups, cross purposes and a bit of daring do rescues, look no further than this well written and completely entertaining novel called The Wicked Wedding of Miss Ellie Vyne. It’s romance with cheek and I loved every page of it.
