Benedict, a successful accountant, who’s just been dumped for being boring, is surprised and pleased to learn that he’s inherited half ownership in a gay bar from his estranged father, seeing it as a chance to get out of his rut. That’s until he meets his new partner, a mouthy, disturbingly hot Brit called Shane, and discovers that the bar’s in the red and Shane’s not interested in renovations that could drive away their regulars.

When a late-night confrontation turns into the hottest sex either of them has experienced, they realize there’s one way to fit a square peg into a round hole, but are they solving problems or papering over the cracks? As they explore the new dynamic between them, pushing their limits until Ben’s shocked at where his desire to dominate Shane takes him, the renovations to the bar begin. They’re building something new, something good — but fear and an unexpected act of violence may tear down what they’ve created.

Everything about Ben screams uptight including his form fitting suit, accounting profession and need to come into Shane’s bar and change everything. The only problem is, the bar isn’t only Shane’s, it belongs to both of them so somehow they will need to learn to work together.

I love the dynamic between Shane and Ben’s personality. From their blatant differences in personalities to their inability to agree on anything… well, anything except for the mutual attraction to one another. It is clear that they are going to need some work regarding the bar and figure some way to meet in the middle. Ben while out of his element wants to make the bar as successful as possible. Shane feels as if he has been running the bar long enough to know what it needs and what is right, even if admittedly something have feel through the cracks.

The physical attraction between the characters is instantly recognizable. Even when the author doesn’t come out and say it directly you can tell there is something pulling these two together. While they may not recognize or understand that they have the unique ability to give each other what they need I as a reader could recognize it. It made the story more entertaining to watch how they figured out themselves and their need for one another.

The BDSM element in this story was intriguing. The characters seem to fall right into the role of dominant and submissive without even recognizing their own needs or each others. One thing that I would have liked was for one of them to educate themselves on safety regarding their actions. I couldn’t help but wonder if they would push the envelope too far and not understand what type of potential physical and emotional damage they would have done. Luckily, they did not harm one another and instead looked to meet each other’s needs. Now I hope some of the other characters in the story can also find there happily ever after, and I have a feeling this isn’t the last of The Square Peg we will see.
