Cassie Jonsson, a pretty blonde police officer, is given the odd jobs the men don’t want, in this case checking out an old house the locals believe is haunted. The McAllister house is indeed haunted, but not by a ghost. Prophet is a ruggedly handsome former vet. He awakens something primal in Cassie, a boundless desire that blinds her to the dangers of bedding a stranger.

If you like hot sex with a little bit of story, this is a great choice for you.

Cassie was a heroine I had mixed feelings about… on the one hand, she seemed smart, independent and capable. The kind of woman I’d want my daughter to emulate. On the other hand, we find out she’s having an affair with a married man, which put me off her quite a bit. Had the author not included that tidbit about her, I would have really admired our heroine.

Our hero is a veteran just back from the war. He’s hanging out in an abandoned barn on his way to a potential job across country. He’s sees Cassie before she sees him, and he’s intrigued. He’s definitely a go-getter who goes after what he wants, and from the start he wants her.

Although I had to suspend reality and disbelief a bit (because she meets a scruffy stranger and immediately has sex outside in the grass with him–do people actually do that?) I finished this story because the writing itself was solid. The story may have been a stretch for me, but the author has serious skills. Yes, the sex is hot and frequent and authentically described. Yes, the hero is hot and sexy and smart and all the things we want in our romance novel men. I’m still not 100% in love with Cassie (I just have a hard time getting past her willingly being the other woman), but she made a smart choice at the end, so I’ll give her a break and wish her a long and happy future with her sexy vet.

The Outsider is a good choice for a reader who’s looking for a quick, sexy read.

  14. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and, if so, how do you overcome it?

    • It would have to be biographies. Both people I admire, and those with more questionable claims to fame!! I like to know what makes people tick. What about you?

    • Whoops! Not sure how I doubled up on the reply, sorry! But to answer your question, I don’t suffer from writers block exactly. Sheer laziness, yes!! And I can be easily distracted. But if I can’t see my way out of a conversation or scene I often find going and doing something else – like housework – will often trigger the solution. Then I have to rush back to my keyboard and get it down before I’ve forgotten it!

    What is your favorite genre?

    • That’s hard, as it changes according to the circumstances! I do like thrillers, especially when travelling. If it’s a really good plot, with plenty of twists and turns I can lose myself in it. Other times, historical novels – especially the medieval period. Oh and time travel. I just loved Diana Gabaldon’s early novels. And as said before, biographies. What about you?

    Hi Galia,

How did you decide on the cover for your book?

    • It’s a collaberative thing with my publishers, and my least favourite part of the publishing process! As an ‘introduction’ to my work a good cover is so important, and even after all is agreed I still worry over whether we have the right image, the right font, etc.

  19. Sounds like a great read, thank you for sharing!

  20. Thank you for the review. I am looking forward to reading more about the book.

  21. Are you the type to have everything outlined and planned or do you just let the story take you where it wants to go?

    • Very definitely the latter! In fact the characters usually take over, leaving me running to catch up! I would love to be structured, and write in a more methodical way as I’m sure it would make for an easier life. But I’m the kind of person who enjoys peeping around corners and lifting rocks to discover what’s underneath, so maybe that’s why I have to write the way I do.
