The Dragon Healer is a wonderful addition to Bianca D’Arc’s tales of the Dragon Knights. This one is meant to be a companion novella to her book, Maiden Flight, and is as well crafted as the rest of the series.

Silla is a healer, travelling the borders of Draconia and helping when and where she can. As an accomplished apothecary, trained at The High Temple of Our Lady of Light, she trained for years before being sent out on her travels to become a journeyman healer. She is five years into her ten year quest, and has earned the respect and gratitude of those she has helped. As she nears the inn at Bayberry Heath, she hears the cry of a creature in pain, and as she rounds the in she sees a startling sight: the men are working a bucket line, pouring water on a great dragon, suffering from a skith attack, and the burns that skith venom causes. Silla is willing to help, and as she does, she meets the dragon’s partner, Sir Broderick, one of the Dragon Knights of Draconia. When Broderick sees her, he is drawn to her as he has never been before to any woman, and believes her to be his mate, and thus also the mate to his partner, Sir Geoff. Silla seems so innocent and shy, Brodie needs to bring her into their world gently, and at first vows to be the complete gentleman, until he receives signs that Silla would be willing to be with him. Silla believes it to be just a one time thing with Brodie, and wants to experience the passion she never felt in her brief and loveless marriage. What Brodie shows her is a passion like none she’s known, and when Geoff arrives, having gotten word of the dragon, Phelan’s injury, he joins them and adds yet another level of heat to the situation. But still, Silla can leave at any time, and she is sure they don’t want her to stay. Will Brodie and Geoff be able to convince Silla she is their one true mate, that one woman meant to own both of their hearts? When Silla says she can hear Phelan and his mate Quila speak in her mind, will she panic and run? Or will there be a happy ever after for these three humans and their two magnificent dragons?

This is filled with romance, passion and, of course, dragons and their handsome and virile knights. The characters are warn, passionate and well developed, and fit the world Ms. D’Arc has put them in. I like that she gave a short reminder about her world of Draconia, and the beings, good and bad, that inhabit it, and kept it from feeling like somewhere I’d seen before.

Silla is a strong and intelligent woman. After a bad experience with her first marriage, she doubts she will ever experience the passion and abandon she has heard other women speak of. She is used to being alone in her travels, and is surprised when she responds to Sir Broderick and his gentle advances. I liked watching Silla discover that she was, in fact, a warm and sensuous woman, and that these knights were able to open her heart to new romance. I loved her inner dialog that she wanted this just once for herself, never realizing that the two men planned on so much more than that with her.

Sir Broderick, or Brodie, is stunned to find that the gentle and shy healer can hear his dragon, Sir Phelan, speak to her. It is this that gives him the first inkling that she may be his mate, and, if so, also Sir Geoff’s as well. But he wants to take things slow, letting Silla get used to him and being intimate with someone. I enjoyed watching as what began as a medical treatment became a very hot and sexy seduction of Silla’s senses and her desires. When Sir Geoff, Brodie’s partner knight, arrives and finds the two together, he decides to see if Silla could, in fact accept them both and join as their mate in truth. I enjoyed watching as Geoff discoveres that love at first sight is not only possible, it is exactly what has happened to all of them.

The Dragon Healer is a hot and very sexy short story, set in the fantasy world of Draconia that Ms. D’Arc has so marvelously created, and a great addition to the series. This is a story with just three characters throughtout, well five if you include Phelan and Quila, the dragons of the knights. I loved the slow seduction that Brodie employed with Silla, and I loved Silla’s courage and determination to take what she wanted, even while she thought it would only be fleeting. This is for all of the dragon lovers out there, or anyone who wants some fantasy and magic in their lives.
