Love turns up in all the wrong places…at just the right time.

Growing up a police chief’s daughter, Kaylee Stephens saw firsthand how arrogant cop attitudes affect a marriage. Not for her, no sir. But when a priceless, pre-Columbian statue comes up missing, the day-school teacher finds herself in the middle of a police investigation. And face-to-face with sexy Detective Lucas Blackfox, her brothers’ old high school chum.

She had nothing to do with the crime, despite the fact that she—up until very recently—was engaged to the number one suspect. Once that’s cleared up, she plans to return to her peaceful, cop-less life.

Luc can’t seem to keep Kaylee out of his thoughts, and it’s not just because every time he and his partner turn over a new stone in the case, Kaylee shows up. She’s grown from the pig-tailed tagalong he once knew to a woman he’d like to know better.

List of professions to avoid when dating? Check. List growing longer as time goes by? Check. Make sure to follow said list? Umm…check? That list and said rules were going just fine until a man from Kaylee’s past makes a grand re-entrance into her life. Not in a good way, mind you. Kaylee is mad, frustrated, and ready to avoid! In a book full of laughs, author Aimie Louellen takes the reader on a comical and fun journey about falling in love.

I enjoyed the lighthearted tone in this book. The characters totally stand out with their quirks, uniqueness and captured my attention right away. Kaylee has had a history of rocky relationships. She seems to bow out when she can’t handle the man’s profession. She doesn’t want to be lonely, she doesn’t want to be hurt…one could say she’d hiding out and doesn’t want to take a chance on things. She’s not much of a risk taker. Not when it comes to her heart. Kaylee cracks me up. She can be a bit irritating at times, but she’s fun, emotional…and stubborn. Oh boy is she ever stubborn! She just wants her independence and avoids asking for or receiving help as much as possible. Luc is like that thorn in her backside, until she realized how much she can’t live without him.

Ahh, Luc. His charm. His wit. His determination to break through Kaylee’s wall she keeps heavily guarded. But he has a few doubts of his own, from a past of heartbreak and abandonment. The more Kaylee pushes him away, the more he bounces back. He’s not one to be pushed around. When he wants answers, he goes after it. Luc is a perfect match for Kaylee. I couldn’t help but feel bad for him at times, because he really did try and it took a long time for Kaylee to even come around just slightly.

The writing is effective, the plot moves along at a great pace, and the laughter that escaped my throat won me over. I devoured the book in a night. The dialog is fresh, zinging and full of memorable lines. The characters were well fleshed out, breathing life from the pages. This book is a definite keeper, one to pull out from time to time just to get a good laugh, and have a feel good rumble in your belly. I’ve become a quick fan of Ms. Louellen and will be looking for any new titles to buy without a hesitation.

If you’re a fan of romantic comedy with a healthy dose of happily ever after, I recommend you pick up Ten Reasons Not to Date a Cop. Don’t miss out on this charming book.
