Single mom Grace Mason doesn’t believe in miracles, magic, or love at first sight. She likes the quiet life, complete with her eight-year-old son, their tiny house, and her teaching job. For Grace, happiness means that nothing much ever changes in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Then, one thousand miles away, tragedy strikes. A massive heart attack leaves Grace’s estranged father comatose in an Upstate New York hospital. While a team of doctors fight to keep Henry Mason alive, Grace and Evan rush to his bedside to say their final goodbyes.

Henry’s passing brings little closure for Grace, but she finds herself inexplicably drawn to her new surroundings. What begins as a short trip results in an entire summer spent with Henry’s second wife, Kathleen, and her next-door neighbor, Ryan Gordon, the town doctor. When a series of unlikely events lead to Evan’s disappearance, Grace must face her worst fears to find her son and bring him back home.

Stardust Summer explores the complexities of forgiveness, what it means to be a family, and the fabulous possibility of falling in love—again.

With a wonderful cast of characters and a book full of feeling, Lauren Clark tugs the heartstrings with Stardust Summer.

In truth, there were many times I wanted to shake Grace, our heroine. She was SO stubborn! But you knew she had a good heart from the way she treated her son. She just needed to get past resentment and anger in order to grow into a heroine we could admire. Watching her fight her attraction to, and her slow slide into love with Ryan was also touching and did much to help her get past the negative emotions.

The book is all about that journey, as well as the journey to get through devastating sorrow and loss. We read in the points-of-view of Grace, Kathleen and Ryan, all of whom are dealing with a maelstrom of emotion but somehow need to still put one foot in front of the other and get through life. Ms. Clark does a remarkable job conveying truth in their lives about making it through the difficult times. Her writing is clear, descriptive and believable. Each character is unique and three dimensional and I especially identified with Kathleen, who was a lovely, funny, giving woman who didn’t deserve to lose the love of her life so early.

If you’re looking for a book to make you a little introspective and a lot thankful for what you have in life, and one that will touch your heart I’d recommend Stardust Summer.

A couple of reviewers have mentioned how stubborn and frustrating Grace is. it does, however, sound like a good summer read.

Stardust Summer was one of my very favorite books. Lauren is such an awesome writer I felt like I was right there with Grace through all her ups and downs and her stubbornness. She did come around and I personally would LOVE to see a sequel to this story. One that is about Grace, the cute dr& her stepmom. Oh and of course her son. It was such a wonderful read.
I had to give this book a 5 star rating and it deserved it….
