Party Games, Book 4

Lillian McDermott can’t complain about the years she’s spent at the top of a career she never wanted. But modelling gave her everything. Amazing experiences and enough money to leave it all behind to start her own perfume and fashion label.

The one thing it didn’t give her is Mackenzie Harris. Her brother’s best friend. The man who sees her only as a surrogate little sister. Now, at the launch party for her the next phase of her life, she’s done waiting. She’s going to rock Mac’s world until ignoring her is the last thing on his mind.

Mac isn’t blind to Lilli’s charms, and he never has been. But no best mate screws around with a little sister, no matter how tempting. No matter how much he wants to show her exactly how he’d like to respond to her teasing. But this time she’s gone too far, and he’s not backing down. She started it, and he’s going to finish it.

One spin of the bottle turns friends to lovers. But as the boundaries come down, everything changes. Including what they thought they believed about the other.

Spin the Bottle is book four of the Party Games series, and Rhian Cahill has brought the heat to a head early and often here.  These books are such fun, and are loosely connected, with many overlapping characters and stories. But having said that, each book can be read on its own merit, and nothing gets lost no matter the reading order.

Lillian McDermott has had a successful career, one she never would have chosen for herself, as one of the top models in the world. She has used her fortune behind the scenes, creating a successful children’s clothing line, while being seen as a sexy and mindless woman. As she throws one last mega party to celebrate her retirement from a spotlight she never wanted or enjoyed, she’s determined to make a lasting impression on the one man who has been out of reach to her: her brother’s best friend, Mackenzie Harris. She’s going to make him notice her before the night is over. What Lilli doesn’t know is that Mac has always noticed her, but hitting on your best mate’s little sister isn’t the best idea. When Lilli turns up the heat, however, all bets are off, and one spin of the bottle at the party could change everything. But when the night is over, will Lilli and Mac still be friends? Will all the misconceptions and ideas be erased, once and for all?

The characters here are strong and charismatic, successful in their professions, but more than a bit frustrated in their personal lives. This is a classic case of a crush becoming reality, on both sides of the equation, and a long time in the making.

Lillian McDermott is a successful and intelligent woman, in a profession she hates, but one that has been very good to her. As she celebrates her decision to leave her modeling career behind, she throws one last huge party to say goodbye to the whole circus of fame and fortune. She has everything she ever wanted, except for the one thing she doesn’t think she will ever have: the love of the one man she has loved for over ten years, her brother’s best friend Mackenzie Harris. She believes he dislikes her because of her lifestyle, although he doesn’t really know the real Lilli, the woman outside of the camera’s eye.

Mackenzie Harris has been very successful in his career as attorney to the hugely massive McDermott business empire. He’s smart, strong and determined, and he always gets what he wants. What he wants now is Lilli, and not just for a fling. He’s loved her for as long as he can remember, but he couldn’t seem to get past her public image and find the woman inside. Every time they’re together, he ends up insulting her, even knowing he’s wrong. I really enjoyed watching as Lilli was able to twist him in knots and show him how wrong about her he was.

Watching these two circle each other, with all their verbal sparring, was delightful. And I absolutely loved the reverse route that Mac took to build his relationship with Lilli after their first encounter. Make no mistake, this is a Rhian Cahill romance so it is screaming hot with passion, misunderstandings, secrets exposed and domineering males beating their chests for attention. There is also sweet passion, romance and brand new rules to all the old party games we all used to play. I highly recommend this one for all of those who like to play games and have fun in romance. But keep the fan on high, and have plenty of ice on hand.
