After overcoming a difficult childhood, Taryn Ross has a fairy tale life – her father is a Senator contemplating a run for President, her mother loves to take her shopping for ridiculously expensive clothes, and she is finishing up her junior year at NYU.

What she doesn’t have is love – the heart pounding, mind blowing, passion filled love that she reads about in her collection of steamy romance novels. But that might change when she accepts a cup of coffee from a sexy mysterious stranger.

Wyatt Hunter has experienced a loss that has him living each day just going through the motions. His world is in dull shades of gray – until the day he meets Taryn. She brings vibrant brilliant color back into his life, and he can’t stand the thought of going on without her.

But Wyatt is holding a secret that could send Taryn running when she finds out.

Every day when Taryn comes to the Starbucks for her afternoon coffee, he is there… “Hot Coffee Man”. He looks like an executive always in a suit, always reading his newspaper, always at the same table. Although she tries to avoid being conspicuous by openly looking at him, she cannot stop herself from catching glimpses of him when he is not looking. Of course this works until she is caught and their eyes meet.

I loved the sexual tension between Taryn and Wyatt (Mr. Hot Coffee Man). He is adorable and courteous. Being in charge of her safety without her knowing it is not easy for him. He has come to look forward to seeing her every day and talking to her. The friendship and bond that develops between them is strong. If circumstances were different, Wyatt would have moved faster into a full-fledge relationship with her.

This is book #1 of this series. It is a good beginning to an enjoyable story. I regret that the author seemed to lose her way toward the end of this book and resorts to filling in with retelling the story from Wyatt’s viewpoint. The plot line is a solid one. The characters are well delineated and lovable. There are more issues to resolve that will definitely launch a second book and will make an interesting read. I just did not appreciate having to re-read everything I already knew with really nothing else to gain from it.

I like the character of Taryn very much. She is independent and thoughtful. She is a caring individual, who no matter what the circumstances, relies on her empathy and intelligence to resolve problems.

I will read book #2 because I definitely want to find out more about Lindsay, Josh, and above all, what happens to Linc.
