We first meet the hero, Nathaniel, when he is being ordered to seduce the heroine, Georgette. This was to prevent her from being able to marry a Duke, one of the King’s sons. There were political reasons that people wanted this to be stopped. Nathaniel does not want to do this, but is being blackmailed into it. I didn’t like him at first, but gradually fell for him.

We first meet our heroine, Georgette, when she is trying to sneak into a House of Ill Repute to rescue one of the girls working there. Running into problems, she is rescued by Nathaniel. We also meet Mercy, a girl she has rescued from a similar situation. She is helping Georgette in her efforts to rescue these girls.

Nathaniel begins his attempt to seduce Georgette, but finds himself having a difficult time trying to losing his heart to her. He really admires her personality and courage. She is strong-willed, determined and very stubborn, except with her parents. It turns out there is a good reason for that behavior.

There are so many things that are going on at the same time, mysteries, murder, romance in the upper halls, and in the kitchen that it is fun seeing what is going to happen next.

I really enjoyed this story, and I loved all the characters also. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys regency stories with a twist of the unexpected. This one is unique.
